Description

Cass & Bob converse with philosopher David Buchanan. He is a personal acquaintance of Robert Persig, the author of Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. He wrote a Master’s thesis on how Persig’s work aligned with the theories of early 20th century philosopher, William James, and how they both turned conventional Platonic philosophy on its head. Like Joseph Campbell, Buchanan endorses the power of myth and story-telling to convey morals, existential framing, and, most poignant in this conversation, the reality of personal mystical experiences that are beyond explanation.
