Spiritual gifts are given to equip the church to carry out its ministry until Christ returns

Therefore you do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed (1 Co 1:7) Since you are eager for gifts of the Spirit, try to excel in those that build up the church (1 Co 14:12) to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature (Eph 4:12)
