Each of you have been given sticky notes & a pen. Take a minute or two and write down the jobs and roles you think are necessary for a successful SCC.
School Staff
Make instructional decisions Serve as Chair or Vice-Chair

Responsible for compliance & fiscal matters Cannot serve as Chair or Vice-Chair
School Board
Responsible to community & its values Observe state law & State Board of Ed rules Rely on district & school administrators Review & approve School Improvement Plans
Think back on the roles discussed earlier in the training. What skills and characteristics are need for each role? Maybe youll see youre more suited for a role within your SCC than you thought.
Principal
Ensure elections are held in accordance with state law Ensure all plans & reports are submitted as required Provide school data to help the council set appropriate goals and make informed decisions Attend all meetings and provide support to Chair & ViceChair Participate in development of School Improvement Plan
Chairperson
Collaborate with Principal to create meeting agendas & ensure they are distributed to SCC members Notify members of meeting times & places Conduct meetings & be familiar with meeting rules on voting & taking minutes Make sure meetings follow the agenda in a timely fashion Make assignments as appropriate Participate in development of School Improvement Plan
Vice-Chair
Provide support for the Chairperson Assume the Chairpersons duties when the Chair is absent Participate in development of School Improvement Plan
School Staff
Participate in development of School Improvement Plan Attend scheduled meetings Offer constructive comments and ask important questions relating to student & school concerns
Parent Members
Participate in development of School Improvement Plan Attend scheduled meetings Offer constructive comments and ask important questions relating to student & community concerns
