Engstrom Ventilator-DOs Cleaning & Sterilization Instructions

Display Back Panel & VentilatorFan Filters- weekly cleaning Exhalation Valve & Flow Sensor: After every case wash and soak parts in warm water and mild detergent for a minimum 15 minutes, then rinse in cold water followed by hot water, Dry in room air allowing cavities to drain. If required you can sterilize the expiratory valve and flow sensor by steam autoclaving (134 degrees C) or EO. Check for cracks and damage and replace if any defects are visible Please ensure that expiratory valve and flow sensor are dry when replaced Ensure that the water trap O-Ring is present while re-assembling expiratory flow sensor

Engstrom Ventilator-DOs
Nebulizer Cleaning and Disinfection: Immediately after use with medication , run a cycle with only sterile water. Cleaning and Disinfecting between patients:Separate the Nebulizer and the cable, remove nebulae unit from the TAdapter, remove filler cap from the nebulae, empty any excess liquid, rinse the parts with sterile water, allow the parts of air dry The nebulae parts can be disinfected by CIDEX, NU-CIDEX or CIDEX-OPA The nebulae parts can also be sterilized by steam autoclaving (134 degrees C)

How to start the ventilator

Normal Operation:
Turn the power switch to the ON position; after successfully completing Power On Self Tests, the Patient Setup menu will be displayed
Select the Patient Type - Adult or Pediatric or neonatal (default ventilation settings vary dependent upon patient population. Ensure neonatal flow sensor is connected if neonatal patient type is selected) Select Checkout to perform the ventilator checkout procedure (this procedure is recommended prior to placing a new patient on the vent) Enter Patient Weight (allows the ventilator to make initial ventilation parameter suggestions) Select Vent Setup (in the Patient Setup menu or by pressing the menu key) to select/ adjust ventilation settings Set alarm limits using the Alarms Setup menu Go to Vent Preferences menu and select following: Select Back Up Mode and Parameters Select Leak Compensation On Select Assist Control Mode On Select Trigger Compensation On Select Tidal Volume Based on- ATPD (if HMEF is used)/ BTPS (if Active Humidifier is used) Select ARC (Automatic Resistance Compensation) if required. Connect the patient circuit to the patient airway Begin ventilation by selecting Start Ventilator in the Patient Setup menu or by turning Standby mode to OFF in the Vent Setup menu

Engstrom Ventilator-Don'ts Please do not try to disinfect/sterilize the expiratory valve and flow
sensor with CIDEX, NU-CIDEX or CIDEX-OPA Do not autoclave or submerge the nebuliser cable

Do not select the Neonatal patient type without connecting the neonatal flow sensor
Do not forget to check whether the P-limit is set appropriately in volume based modes of ventilation like VCV and SIMV-VC Do not use compressed air or water jet to clean the expiratory flow sensor Do not forget to set the back up ventilation mode and parameters for each patient.

Engstrom Ventilator Nebuliser Use in NEONATES CAUTION To prevent damage to the neonatal flow sensor, remove it from the patient circuit during the delivery of nebulized medication and turn the Neo Flow Sensor Off. WARNING Volume control, volume monitoring, and flow monitoring are not available when the neonatal flow sensor is turned off.

Engstrom Ventilator Nebuliser Use in NEONATES

To turn the flow sensor off: 1. Select PCV mode, if in Therapy. 2. Push System Setup. 3. Select Neo Flow Sensor Setup. 4. Select Neo Flow Sensor. 5. Select Off. Important : If the neonatal flow sensor is turned off, the only mode available for ventilation will be PCV.

If the neonatal flow sensor is turned off or the cable is disconnected, the Trigger will automatically change to -0.5 cmH2O if it was set above 0 cmH2O.
