Pollution related Map Layers

Pollution analysis makes use of the following map layers:

Pilot Pollution
The bins with the number of received sectors
(as measured in the drive survey)

Pollution Bin Lines

Lines from a bin to each received sector Click on a bin to show the lines
(see also Pilot Pollution: At a given Location)

Pollution Sector Lines

Lines from a sector to other sectors sharing pollution Click on a sector to show the lines
(see also Pilot Pollution: Between Sectors)

Radio Network Analysis

Pilot Pollution

Your trainer will now demonstrate how to analyze pilot pollution:

To get a pilot pollution overview, run Pollution analysis Possible data sources: Handset or Scanner
Scanner analysis is more reliable, of course

Left panel shows a histogram of the number of strong signals

Click to save the chart as JPG

Use the Legend to display only selected values/ranges,

e.g. number of signals > Active Set Size

Sort the table,

e.g. for highest Count Pollution 80

Radio Network Analysis

Pilot Pollution: At a given Location

Your trainer will now demonstrate how to identify the polluting sectors at a given location:
On the map, select a bin
(An area can be selected by Shift + draw a rectangle. Multiple bins can be selected by Ctrl.)

All sectors that provide a strong signal

are identified by lines*:
light green : serving sector green : next best sectors, up to Active Set Size red : polluters yellow : below thresholds

and listed in a table in the left panel together with the measurement information

Radio Network Analysis

Pilot Pollution: Between Sectors

Your trainer will now demonstrate how to identify which sectors pollute each other:
Sort the sector table at the bottom for the highest Count Pollution Select the top sector Sector lines
Thickness corresponds to the number of polluted bins can be hidden/shown by the Draw Sector Lines checkbox

Polluted sectors table in the left pane

includes Distance and number of polluted bins e.g. sort it for the highest distance

Antenna Visualization: Settings

When antenna visualization is activated

by selecting a sector and then clicking ,

click to review and adjust the Antenna Visualization Settings

Default Antenna Height (m): The antenna height value used for the purposes of the visualization. Default Distance (m): The distance to the outer edge of the visualization region
On the map it is shown as a large circle around the selected sector. In the terrain profile chart it determines the right-hand end and the horizontal scaling.

Region Start (m): The distance from the antenna at which pollution bins will start to be displayed in the terrain profile chart. Region Width (m): The width of the shaded region on the map. And the width, for which pollution bins are displayed in the chart. Start/End Alpha: The transparency of the start and end of each shaded region.
A value of 1 is solid, and a value of 0 is totally transparent. The shading will grade steadily from the start point to the end point of each shaded region.

Start/End Color: The color at the start and end of each shaded region.
The color will change steadily from one color to the other from the start to the end point of each shaded region.

Use Symmetric Scaling: Changes the vertical scale in the chart to match the horizontal scale. It is usually switched off to accentuate the vertical scale. Show Grid Lines: Displays lines on the chart corresponding to each successive 3 dB reduction in antenna power.

Antenna Visualization & Pilot Pollution

Your trainer will now demonstrate how to visualize the vertical antenna orientation over terrain and pollution:
Click to activate Antenna Visualization
(either on the map or in the table)

Select a sector

with a non-zero, rather high Count Pollution

Antenna Visualization:
Shows the visualization corridor on the map and the vertical antenna orientation in combination with the altitude profile and the pollution bins in the diagram below The initial azimuth angle of the corridor points to the most pilot pollution where the selected sector is best server

Move the cursor over a bin in the diagram

to see the tooltip and highlight it in the map

Select a pollution bin (outside of the corridor) to change the visualization towards the direction of that bin

Radio Network Analysis

Antenna Visualization & Pilot Pollution

Your trainer will now demonstrate how to analyze different antenna downtilts:
Use the sliders to the left of the diagram to change the vertical orientation
Adjust the electrical tilt Click below the left slider to also Adjust Mechanical Tilt

Click

(if available in the database)

to show the antenna pattern

Click and move the corridor on the map to turn it to a different direction
Investigate the impact of tilt settings at the different angles

Missing Neighbors

Your trainer will now demonstrate how to analyze and optimize neighbor lists:
To get a neighbor lists overview, select Neighbors as analysis Select a row in the sector list, then neighbors
