The after effects of WWII were actually the reason for the origin of NAM. Each of the allies, were anxious to expand and enlarge its area of influence. Rests on the principle of National Independence and selfreliance.

In the beginning, concept of NAM was misinterpreted, but Nehru cleared the concept in 1949.

Relations with countries depends entirely on various factors. Close relations will develop and would be encouraged to develop.

Presupposes participation in international politics without bloc affiliation. Not a policy of passive neutrality.

It is neither a policy of silence, nor a policy of isolation.

At the 7th NAM summit, Indias PM addressed by quoting, NAM is to vague, not negative, not neutral. We cannot risk any shadow on our freedom of judgment and action.
