Lesson 8: Jesus Calls His Apostles

Unit 3: Jesus Begins His Mission Second Quarter

Mind-map Making

How would you

describe a friend?

FRIEND

We Connect
In our life, we have persons whom we call as
friends. They are those persons who stay and spend time with us. Often times, we share our stories, even our secrets, to them. We laugh and cry with them. We trust them.

In His life here on earth,

Jesus also called some men to be His first friends. These men followed Jesus in His mission. They also learned from Him. We refer to them as the Apostles of Jesus.

JESUS CALLS US TO BE HIS FRIENDS

Jesus invites us to be His friends.

Jesus calls everyone, even those who
had turned his or her back on Him. This quality of friendship is the same friendship He offered to the apostles two thousand years ago.

ST. PAUL OF TARSUS, THE APOSTLE TO THE GENTILES

St. Paul of Tarsus was originally known as Saul. He was a persecutor of CHRISTIANS.

ST. PAUL OF TARSUS, THE APOSTLE TO THE GENTILES

After a vision of Jesus

along the road to Damascus, Paul changed his heart and became one of the greatest missionaries of the Church.
(Read Act 9:1-21; 22:1-22; 26:9-24).

Due to his hard work, St. Paul was later known as the Apostle to the Gentiles. The word gentile refers to the people who are not Jews.

St. Paul became an apostle even if he was not part of the original twelve because he answered the call of Jesus to be His follower and friend.

Like the twelve apostles
