DYAD SHARING

Describe an agreement you have made with a family member. What was the agreement all about? Were you true or faithful to your agreement? Why? Why not?

Often in our lives, we enter into agreements with other people. As we make agreements, we also promise and try to be faithful with it.
The Sacrament of Matrimony is also a special agreement. It is a covenant.

HOW IS MARRIAGE A COVENANT?

WHAT IS A COVENANT?

We start with: GODS COVENANT WITH THE CHOSEN PEOPLE

God promised to protect the people and to help them live in their freedom. He promised to be their God. In return, the people promised to be Gods people.

The covenant is all about the faithfulness between God and His people.

COVENANT BETWEEN JESUS CHRIST AND HIS CHURCH

Jesus promises to love us always and be with us. He calls us to love Him with all our hearts. In return, we, the Church, promise to love Jesus and one another. We promise to be faithful to Him and to His teachings.

MARRIAGE AS A COVENANT

The marriage covenant is a life-long commitment between a man and a woman to live as faithful and loving partners.

The marriage covenant reminds us of Christs covenant with the Church. The Church is the Bride of Christ. Christ has a special love for His Church. His love is unconditional and permanent.

WHAT DOES ST. PAUL TEACH US ABOUT MARRIAGE AS A COVENANT?

The Duty of the Husband and Wife to each other

Ephesians 5:23-33

Questions for Discussions:

How does St. Paul compare the union of husband and wife to the union of Christ and the Church? What did St. Paul remind the husband to do to their wife? How about the wife to their husband?

St. Paul compares the union of husband and wife to the union of Christ and the Church.
Christ loves the Church. He gave Himself up to make her holy. Just as Christ loves the Church, so too should husband and wife love each other. This love should be permanent, faithful and self-giving.

St. Paul reminds and compares that the love of a husband should be like the love of the Christ to the Church through service, fidelity and self-giving.

As St. Paul reminds us:

Christ Church is like the husband is like the wife who gives love that who returns is of service, fidelity the love and self-giving of her husband.

We Respond.
We must always help our parents to remain faithful each other. We acknowledge the challenges that come in our family and face them as one family.

How have I helped my parents to fulfill their marriage vows of faithfulness and love to each other?
