Prepare a speech for effective public speaking Learn various approaches in delivering the presentation Practice some exercises on physical and vocal aspects related to speaking in public

1. Write the best speech you can 2. It must contain only 2-5 main ideas 3. Strong ideas should be at the beginning or at the end of the speech

Style - the pattern of choices in the use of language
To achieve clarity in speech:

You must not use jargons


Limit technical terms to make you language understandable to the audience Use active voice rather than passive voice

Several rhythmic devices Repetition emphasizes key points, enhances memory and comprehension

Antithesis pairing of opposites to suggest a choice between them


Parallel wording a word pattern thats easy to anticipate, recognize and creates rhythm Imagery another rhythmic device making a speech vivid

Delivery
Learn how to relax yourself - Admit that youre nervous
Think about what youre going to say and its effect to the audience Project confidence Think good to look good and to feel good Start strong and end strong

Delivery should not call attention to itself

Do not let your tension mess up your long preparation
