Parc 1 seoul, by martha schwartz.

Introduction:
Parc 1 is a mixed-use commercial development having international brand-name shops and the biggest variety of quality restaurants. The development is at the edge of Seouls finest park. The 4.6 hectare site is easily accessible from Seoul by three major bridges and a subway line. Parc 1 also include a premium galleria mall, an international hotel, ultra-modern architecture, public access spaces and plazas.

descripction:

The Residential Street and Plaza is a community space for resting, gathering and people watching which includes a free-formed paving and planting scheme utilizing various hard and soft/tactile surfaces. The Media Plaza accommodates various cultural events with an ambient lighting sculpture as a focal point. The sunken Office Plaza has wall fountains with associated hanging gardens and shallow pools which creates a place both to occupy and visual aesthetics.

The unified paving and lighting surfaces carry through the interior spaces and up the media/light wall. The 5th floor is totally a Bamboo Forest with some relaxing space for shoppers.

Analysis:

Parc 1s design concept evolves around the idea of creating a unique meeting place in and around the structure. The Parc 1 design emphasizes on public open spaces and linkages, connections to the community, and sustainability. a contemporary representation of nature and landscape in Korean art is clearly reflected in the design. Vertical hanging gardens all over the surfaces brings a visual pleasance.
