The Deutsche Hydrographische Gesellschaft e.V. [DHyG] was founded in 1984 as an independent, non-profit making, nongovernmental, learned professional society. It provides a forum for all those involved in activities related to hydrography and associated disciplines and encourages and promotes the development of the hydrographic science, profession & industry. DHyG encompasses a wide range of disciplines and activities and does not represent the interests of any particular industry sector.

Hosting annual Hydrographic Conferences and Workshops (latest one was the HYDRO 2010 Conference & Exhibition) Publishing quarterly Journal "Hydrographische Nachrichten" (in electronic and print version) Sponsoring student programmes and individuals Promotion of dedicated quality label Anerkannter Hydrograph Public promotion of Hydro/Geo Sciences through national and international cooperation of various Hydro/Geo Associations Contribution to the National Masterplan - Maritime Technologies

Aiming to improve the quality of hydrographic services in Germany Quality label "Anerkannter Hydrograph" exclusively been developed by DHyG Evaluation based on: professional training / Qualification professional experience (surveying, research & development, teaching) professional training and add-on qualification Publications / Lectures Other related Activities (incl. DHyG) Quality committee - following published rules & regulations - deciding on application

The International Federation of Hydrographic Societies [IFHS] was founded in 2002 as a non-profit association and is a unique partnership of learned national and regional hydrographic societies to promote Hydrography beyond national borders.

The IFHS is managed by its board of directors.
