ARTICLE VI: LEGISLATIVE DEPARTMENT


This article is mainly about the composition, powers, and functions of the Legislative Department of our government. The Legislative Department is composed of two chambers: the Senate, and the House of Representatives. (Picture)

COMPOSITION

Number of Officials (must be elected)


Senate 24 senators

Filipino citizen, can read, write, and at least 35 yrs. old Filipino citizen , can read, write, and at least 25 yrs. old

House of Representatives not more than 250 members

Senators and Representatives:

Receive annual compensation of Php7, 200


Transportation Allowance

Senate President and Speaker of the House receive annual compensation of Php16, 000 Privileged from arrest during sessions Declare existence of a state war

REGULATIONS
Disclosure of financial and business interests Incapability of holding any other government positions, subdivisions, or agency Punishments, such as suspension, for disorderly behaviours

Senators:
Service not more than two consecutive terms Service not more than three consecutive terms

GENERAL FUNCTIONS
Begin serving at noon on the 30th day of June following their election Convene in regular session once a year on the fourth Monday of July Keep a journal or record of its proceedings Conduct inquiries in aid of legislation
