A patrol Harbour is a position established to provide security when a patrol halts for an extended period
To To
avoid detection lie up whilst a detailed recce of an objective is made prior to the formation of a final plan To form a base for operations e.g. Attack, Ambush, recce or establishing OPs To provide an RV after infiltration into an enemy area by small groups or after withdrawing from such an area To provide security for an admin halt after long periods of movement or close contact

Mission : Must be located so that it best enables the patrol to conduct its tasking Location : Chose an area
Easily defended Dense vegetation to provide cover from ground & air Away from human habitation and civilians Water Source Routes in and out Good comms
Avoid
An Obvious position Ridge lines or crests which may be used as routes Roads, tracks etc Wet areas, steep slopes and small valleys
Platoon
ambush Plt cmdr and recce party (sect cmdrs + guides) site harbour in detail At harbour
Plt Cmdr sets Plt HQ and 6 and 12 Positions Plt & Sect Cmdrs site Sect areas & LSW Positions Perimeter wire set
Sect
Sect Cmdr meets Sect at apex of Sects location and each man shown position and arcs LSW at each corner, noise discipline essential and track plan identified Each man removes Bergen adopts fire position Sect Cmdrs in central position Plt Cmdr checks perimeter with each Sect Cmdr
Each
Sect send out patrol to cover its arcs, remainder stood to Patrol moves out from neighbouring Sects LSW to limit of sight and sound, move along Sects frontage and back through own LSW Patrols should detect and report
Signs of recent en activity Possible en approach routes Unexpected obstacles Streams and dominating ground Possible ERV locations
If
thorough recce conducted, may not be necessary to send out patrols immediately If patrols not carried out immediately, must be carried out at first light
Sentries
posted at limit of noise Normally one sentry posted in depth Sentries act as early warning to Plt, only fire in self defence, withdraw back through LSW Comms between Sentry & LSW Sentries only located outside harbour during work routine Night: Double staggered sentries on LSW Positions
Prep
stand to positions and field of fire (Shell scrapes & warning devices) Track plan and guide lines set Lay comms cord Sentries-LSW-Sect Cmdr-Plt Cmdr Position Shelters
Confirmatory orders to include Future Ops Alarm & Stand to system Orders for opening fire and defence of harbour Location of ERV Sentry roster Resupply Sleeping & feeding Track discipline Staggered weapons cleaning Latrines
Plt Cmdr must insure Sentries correctly posted & Briefed Good comms with sentries All round defence maintained Good battle discipline maintained
Correct cam No lights, smells or noise CEFO and weapon carried at all times Kit not in use away
Harbour
area compact Clearance patrols at first and last light All movement done through 6 oclock or along route of occupation Precautions taken to counter enemy follow up of patrols
