Common stick work mistakes

Quick right to left and then left to right drag ball on straight part of stick

Eliminating defenders
Run away from the defenders stick. Make the defender commit. Get the defender out of their center of gravity-leaning to one side. Protect the ball from the tackle-do not stick obstruct. Stay in your center-the next defender is close by.

Beating divers
Diving defenders can be beaten by moving the ball away from their stick or over their stick. Their stick may swing towards you.

Eliminating goal keepers


Do not run through them. They will take you out. Run across their bodies. Watch out for the dive and their one armed tackle with the stick.

Shoot when the goalie is out of position


Blue has dragged the goalie out of position and has an open shot at goal. The defender went for the ball instead of running with the forward. The defender is eliminated.

What should the defender have done?


The defender made a weak one arm reverse stick tackle and missed the ball. The defender should have channeled the forward into the goalie who can then take them out.

The forward is free to shoot


The defender should be next to the forward to jab tackle the ball away.
