The Two Main Divisions of the Bible

Gen. 1:3 - Then God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. Exodus 6:2 - God also said to Moses, "I am the LORD. Deuteronomy 4:24 - For the LORD, your God, is a consuming fire, a jealous God.

Mark 1:1 - The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ (the Son of God). Acts 10:48 - He ordered them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Philippians 4:23 - The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit.

Divisions of the Bible:

Old Testament:
The old Testament tells us about the beginning of the world and about the early history of the Israelite people.

Old Testament:
We read about the story of God and His people in the Old Testament. He taught people to communicate His message of love by following Him.

Old Testament:
He also reveals Himself as a God who loves and who forgives.

Old Testament:
It tells us about the kings and kingdoms of the Israelites. They show how the Israelites struggled to survive and how God spoke to His people.

Old Testament:
Some books are collections of wise sayings, songs of praise called psalms and poems.

Old Testament:
It also tells us tell about the prophets and their messages. The prophets were people called by God to fight injustice. The prophets also encouraged the people when they thought God was pe no longer with them. Often, the prophets had to remind the people pr to obey Gods law.

Old Testament:
Many of these books speak of a Chosen One or a Messiah whom God would send to save the people. We believe that their words about the Messiah refer to Jesus. These are the last books in the Old Testament named after the prophets, except Lamentations and Baruch.

New Testament
The New Testament is the fulfilment of Gods promise the coming of Jesus Christ the Savior of the world, and the greatest sign of Gods love for humanity.

New Testament:
It tells us about the life and teachings of Jesus.

New Testament:
It tells us the life and struggles of the first Christians who made up the early Church, the Family of God.

New Testament:
We come to know that the disciples of Jesus followed Him and loved one another.

Church Teaching:
The Church asks you to accept the word of God as written in the Bible with great faith because its truth is guaranteed by God. (CCC 144) The sign that you believe and accept Gods words in the Bible is when you read, study, live, and pray the Bible. This is how we follow Jesuss words listen and act on my words. (Mt. 7:24-27)

Activity:
A. Identify whether the following belongs to Old Testament or New Testament: 1. God gave His Ten Commandments to the people. 2. God chose Mary to be the mother of Jesus. 3. God promised the people of a messiah or a savior through the prophets. 4. God gave us His only Son Jesus Christ. 5. God created the heaven and the earth and the first man and woman in the world. 6. Jesus died on the cross to save us from our sins.

Activity:
B. We know that the Bible tells us Good News and it makes us happy. Give some ways on how you can be of good news for others.

Reflection:
1. Why do we need to learn about the Old Testament? 2. What do you think is the important knowledge that we can get from the Old Testament? How do we put them into our life?
