    Introduction
    The stupa is the oldest Buddhist religious monument.
    it is a mound like structure. Used by buddhists as a worship place,

    these stupas are the circular doam built of earth.


    Most powerful architectural form of buddhism.

    Basic assumptions
    Square foundation symbolizes the earth. Dome symbolizes water. Thirteen tapering steps sym. Element of fire. The stylized parasol sym. The wind. Which is topped in the ethereal sphere by the well-known twin symbol uniting sun and moon.

    Chattrayashti

    This is the world famous stupa . It was originally commissioned by The emperor ashoka. Its the oldest stone structure of India. In nucleus a simple hemispherical structure built . It was crowned by chatra.

    Between each panel row of Ornamental balusters Panels have animals sculpture at their terminal ends

    Vedica
    Pradakshina path is fenced by vedica ( railing ). 3.35 m. high all around the stupa. Urhdva-patas Octagonal in plan. Connected with three lens shaped suchi (needles). the top horizontal bar has coping.

    Harmica and chattrayasti


    Small balcony in decorative form.
    Enclosing a pedestal. It was expanded above into an inverted pyramid. Three tiered stone or wooden umbrella.

    the stupa is a solid cylinder of bricks and stone reaching a height of 43.6 meters and having a diameter of 28 meters. The wall is covered with exquisitely carved figures of humans and birds.

    > The town was the site of a great Buddhist stupa originally built during the reign of emperor Ashoka. It was completed in 200 CE om and is decorated with carved panels which tell the story of Buddha's life. >It consists of an anda,egg or dome of about 50 m in diameter risiing to height of 30 m. >A terrace or medhi 5 m high from the ground was added forming a separate ambulatory or pradakshina path about 2 m wide. >The upper part of the doe was plastered and ornamented with a garland like while the tri ratna and poorn kumbha ornamentions.

    >One notable featur of this stupa is the improvement in the architectural appearance by providing a rectangular platform(Aryaka) to the base of the dome at four cardinal points.
