What is Internet?
It is combination of two letters:

i- Inter ii- Net

The process of linking a collection of networks is called inter networking, from where the internet got its name. The Term internet was officially adopted in 1983.

History of Internet:
The history of the Internet began with the development of electronic

computers in the 1950s. The public was first introduced to the Internet when a message was sent from computer science Professor Leonard Kleinrock's laboratory at University of California, Los Angeles.
In 1960the Internet grew out of the Advanced Research Projects Agency's Wide Area Network (then called ARPANET) established by the US Department Of Defense for collaboration in military research among business and government laboratories

This resulted in ARPANET growing beyond everyone's expectations and acquiring the name Internet.

The URL(Uniform Resource Locator) was invented. This allows sites to be named.

Creation of WWW:

Tim Berners Lee brought all of this

together to form the world wide web in 1990.

Advantages:
Information: You can find any type of information on any subject with the help of search engines like Google and Bing.
Communication: The primary goal of internet was communication, it has done extremely well in this field. Entertainment: video games, movies, songs E-Commerce:

Disadvantages:
Spamming: denotes distribution of unsolicited e-

mails in large numbers. The are meaning less and blocks the whole system.
Theft: Theft of personal details while using internet.
Virus threat: Virus is a program that interrupts the

usual operation of pc.
