TITLE: Scrutinize the mathematics curriculum for the year or form your group is assigned to. Describe the curriculum specification for the statistics component Discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the curriculum specification for the statistics component Write a lesson plan for 70-80 minutes of teaching a statistics or a probability topic. Your lesson plan must include the objectives, the values, the teaching aids used and there must be columns for duration, content, teachers discourse and students discourse,

What is curriculum?
- Is a scope and sequence used in education to mean that a description of a curriculum. MALAYSIA CURRICULUM - Sets out all pupils should be taught through curriculum specification content and learning expected.

Key elements of curriculum are content description and achievement standards organized by learning areas. Malaysian curriculum includes seven Capabilities - Literacy - Numeracy Information Communication technology competence Critical& creative thinking Ethical behavior Personal & social competence Intercultural understanding

What is statistics? It involves identifying problems that can be explored by the use of appropriate data, exploring and etc. - There are few statistics components as Gathering gather data Displaying display information when we wish to communicate Interpretation- measures range of a data Inference cognitive level use to make decisions

Curriculum specification to recognize appropriate statistical data for collection and develop the skills of collecting, organizing, analyzing data and presenting reports and summaries. There are several level of education. Every level they have their own curriculum specification. In primary the statistic component students will be learning data handling. - Lower secondary school learn to classify, collect, recording, counting & measuring by determine the frequency . They also learn to interpret by pictogram, bar charts, line graphs to construct.

Upper secondary level more to determine boundary of a class in grouped data, upper and lower level, frequency, mid point in histograms.

At last, for this assignment, we pick higher learning level (form 4) additional mathematics. Students learn to calculate mean, median and mode when there is an effects on a set of data.

The curriculum specification to let students understand and use the concepts of measures of central tendency to solve problems by calculating the mean and mode of ungrouped data. For example: when each data is changed consistently, extreme value exists, and certain data is added or removed. By this they will learn to determine the most suitable measure of central tendency for the given data

We can says that the students learning move from level to level, their knowledge of mathematical and statistical concepts and their use in different situations becomes more sophisticated and they work more

independently.

ADVANTAGES OF STATISTICS

can be analyzed relatively quickly . information is collected in a standardized way. overcomes the difficulties of encouraging participation by users. often required and respected by decisionmakers within the institution. useful for benchmarking purposes.

Statistics play an important role

Business
statistics help them to plan the product according to costumers taste.

Economics
statistical methods are used for collecting and analysis the data and testing hypothesis.

social sciences
Statistical helps in describing these measurements more precisely.

Banks
bankers use statistical approaches based on probability to estimate the numbers of depositors and their claims for a certain day.

Administrative
statistical methods are used to determine the cost of living.

DISADVANTAGES OF STATISTICS
the statistics given it's impossible to make a decision. They are not suitable to evaluate users opinions, needs or satisfaction with services. Sample may have different outcome in a single incident.

Continue
cannot be generalized to other statistics depending on the subjective topic. time-consuming to arrange methods of data collection. statistics may not be comparable year-on-year.

Limitations of Statistics
single observation is not count as a statistics. applicable on quantitative data. it cannot be applied on heterogeneous data. the statistical results might be misleading. person who has an expert knowledge of statistics can handle statistical data efficiently. inferential statistics involve certain errors.

CURRICULUM SPECIFICATION
statistics topic starts from year 3.
they learn to sort the given ungrouped data according to their similarity also learn to represent the data in the table form.

In year 4, 5 and 6 they learn to analyze the given data and start to represent the data in the form of graph such as pictograph, histogram and line graph. to form 1, 2 and 3 they learn to represent the data in the form of pie chart. In form four they started to learn this topic in detail.

Benefit of curriculum specification

encourages the students to be more systematic. allows students to make observations, identify and interpret the data and information. the students to use statistical concept to solve problems. the students to be creative thinking, critical and logical. enable them to apply mathematical skills in everyday life.

MEAN
Definition Advantages Use the mean to describe the middle of a set of data that does not have an outlier. Most popular measure in fields such as business, engineering and computer science. It is unique - there is only one answer Useful when comparing sets of data. Might not exist or distributions might be multiple modal use in further calculations (e.g. SD) Allows combining with results from other similar groups. Its accurate and reliable Affected by extreme values (outliers) This might give a distorted Picture. Not suitable for time series type of data

Disadvantages

MEDIAN
Use the median to describe the middle of a set of data that does have an outlier. Advantages Extreme values (outliers) do not affect the median as strongly as they do the mean. Useful when comparing sets of data. It is unique there is only one answer. Easy to understand Not as popular as mean. Cannot be used in further calculations or combined with median of similar distributions.

Disadvantages

MODE
Definition Use the mode when the data is nonnumeric or when asked to choose the most popular item. Extreme values (outliers) do not affect the mode.Simple to understand Only one that can be used for qualitative data Is an actual observation data. Not as popular as mean and median. Cannot be used in calculations or combined with mode of similar distributions. Might not exist or distributions might be multiple modal
