It is the collection and analysis of information from sections of public to see or discover the level of demand on that particular

product or service.
Market Research is carried out by :

Organizations or businesses: when new product is proposed , sales , development. Governments: surveys to see the reaction of public towards taxes.

Two levels of research :


Primary research : the costumer is interviewed by the organization. Secondary research : hiring an organization to make the research for another one. But the results might be inaccurate in some cases.

1. Research in advertising media : This is the use the research to see how effective an advertisement is, either in newspaper , radio , cinema or data is being collected. The data is collected in two types :
Primary: that is gathering the data by the company itself. Secondary: giving the gathering process for other company by paying for it .

Two stages to make the research process done :


The first stage is representing the product for the costumers ,before settling down the advertisements. The second stage : is observing the reaction of the costumers , by interviews , phone calls , or even the e-mails.

Research in public opinion

This type of research is done , to see the votes that the public gives for the election. Before the results were taking days , but with the help of computers the results take few hours. Actually those computers are provided with cookie , which helps in recording the number of times that the person had voted.

1. CAPI Computer Assisted Personal Interviewing


This type in which the interviewee and the interviewer are both in the same room. The asked questions are in two ways :
They sit in front of the computer , laptop , to answer the questions The interviewer asks questions according to what is given in the computer.

2- CATI Computerassisted telephone interviewing The interviewer will be at the call center , who will call the selected interviewee and start a personal interview.

3- CAWI computer aided web interviewing

In this type , the company will send to the selected costumers , or all , or those who are willing to take part in the market research , to log on to a site and answer some questions , or fill the answers either by ticking or writing ..

Ways of answering:
It is using the multiple-choice response type, where it will be controlled by the computer to choose which question to be asked next. Nevertheless, the (DBMS) database management software is the type of the software used to type the responses in the computer. Some companies are using pop-ups to capture the online data .
