Introduction

Kochi Metro is an under construction rapid transit system for the city of Kochi in Kerala, India. The first phase is being set up at an estimated cost of 5,181 crore (US$937.76 million), and is expected to be completed in 2016.

Kochi Metro Rail

The Kochi Metro Rail Project is the long cherished dream of citizens of Kochi city. The project is envisaged to increase citizens mobility that will in turn boost the economic growth as well as increase quality of life for the citizens by providing them an alternate mode of public transport to access jobs, business, education, livelihood, entertainment and other social activities.

Our vision is to be a world-class metro rail system that enhances the quality of life for the citizens of Kochi. Mission To provide a reliable, safe, efficient, viable and customer friendly rapid transit system for the greater Kochi area that is environmentally sustainable.

socio-economic opportunities and a shared future.

Two fundamental principles underpin the vision:


Accessibility: PRASA should facilitate access be a gateway - to a better quality of life by enabling individuals and communities to access socio-economic opportunities. Mobility: PRASA should connect individuals and communities through an integrated network of mobility routes.

Strategic Goals
To introduce a world-class metro system in Cochin to

enhance the quality of life for the Greater Kochi metro area by improving regional connections and reducing overcrowding, traffic congestion, transit time, air and noise pollution. To adopt a stakeholder approach to improve connectivity and quality of life by coordinating and consulting with important stakeholder groups, such as community groups, business groups, environmental groups, state and central governments, architects and planners, and various regulatory agencies.

Conclusion
The Kochi Metro Rail Project is the long cherished dream of citizens of Kochi city. The project is planned keeping in view the cultural heritage and commercial significance of the city. The Metro Rail is safe, eco-friendly, and economical. Apart from providing connectivity, the project will bring about a more equitable allocation of road space by encouraging greater use of public transport.
