Wrong Inferences :
*You have returned from a business trip and you find that two of your colleagues are absent and they do not return for several days . . . . *Since there is recession on , you make an inference that they have been laid off. The fact is that they have been promoted and sent to another department . This happened because you failed to confirm to anyone !

*Inferences are more dramatic than facts and hence they give more scope for gossip and rumor .
*When presenting any inference in the course of your work , you must add evidence suggest or in my opinion to remind yourself and receiver that it isnt an established fact yet !

In contrast when we receive information that is not matching to our personal views, habits and attitudes we tend to neglect it or disbelieve . *Advances in communication and technologies are so rapid today that many people have difficulty in quickly adapting themselves to these developments . *Instead of taking advantage of these developments some people criticize them . This is a result of having closed mind . Such people are called Misoneists ! *Some people who have very rigid opinions may face problems in communicating effectively . Also in some people certain prejudices are so deeply embedded that it cannot be changed .

Categorical Thinking :
*Consider a business meeting in which you are to be briefed about the annual budget . However , you dont pay attention because you had been briefed a day before by your secretary . . . *Later you propose that new vehicles have to be brought ! Imagine your embarrassment when you realize the topic was discussed in meeting . *People who feel that they know it all are called Pansophists . These people feel that they know everything about a particular subject , and thus show bad attitude towards further information . This thinking becomes a barrier to communication .
