C. Scope and Limitation


The study will be limited on the lexical equivalent that occurs in Indonesian translation result , not discussing about another equivalents such as : grammar equivalents and so forth. The number of chapters in Midnight Sun are 12 chapters, and the writer will only analyze 6 chapters of it because of certain consideration.

D. Formulation of The Study

E. The Objective of The study


The objective of the study is to find out the English and Indonesian lexical equivalence in translating Stephanie Meyer's novel "Midnight Sun by classifying them into several strategies and concepts of presenting

F. The Significance of The Study


1. It will give accurate information to the readers around the field of translation. 2. The research can help the people who are interested in translating word or that being motivated to be the translators to use the right strategies in translating English (SL) into Indonesian (TL). 3. The research hopefully is useful as the reference for other researchers who will analyze the English and Indonesian lexical equivalents with different title of novel.

CHAPTER III METHOD OF RESEARCH


A. Research Design This study will employ qualitative descriptive method . B. Source of Data The source of the data is an English novel Midnight Sun(2008) by Stephanie Meyer and its Indonesian translation with the same title by Alan Koesumah . The original novel consists of 12 chapters and 264 pages while its translation in target text consists of 12 chapters and 270 pages, and the data that will be analyzed is 6 chapters in English version with 139 pages and 6 chapters in Indonesian version with 138 pages.

C. Analytical Framework
By doing this study, the writer will use Larsons theory of strategies in presenting the lexical equivalent as the analytical framework.

D. Technique of Collecting Data


In collecting the data, written method is used. The data are sentences that contain of lexical items which are translated idiomatically or unilaterally in target language.

E. Technique of Analyzing Data


1. The writer will study the dialogue and find the content of the story by reading the novel carefully. 2. After knowing the meaning intended in the dialogue, the writer will compare the lexical items of written dialogue then decided whether those lexical items are translated literally or idiomatically. The writer will verify those lexical items in the bilingual dictionary compiled by John M. Echols and Hassan Shadily, then find any possible

4. The writer also will analyze the lexical equivalents of its translated dialogue. The writer will look up Indonesian dictionary to know the possible meaning that can be arisen from the lexical items used in the translated dialogue. 5. The writer will classify the strategies 6.
