20 years old (at the beginning) Fair and beautiful face. Bright blue eyes, gold hair. Lord Kelsos grandson. Son of Lady Margaret Devereux and a poor soldier. He is the sitter to Basils work of art. (The picture) He is influenced by Lord Henry. Dorian Gray makes a wish: to remain young The portrait becomes a visible reflection of the state of his soul. Dorian falls in love with Sybil Vane, but what he loves about her is how she acts. He is thirty-eighth at the end of the story.

Lord Henry Wotton

Lord Henry / Basil calls him Harry. He wants to meet Dorian (the sitter). He thinks the picture is wonderful: Basils best work. He meets Dorian at Basils house. He likes talking about life and pleasures. Clever words. He doesnt like Sybil Vane acting. He is happy for having taught Dorian about life.

Basil Hallward

He is an artist. Strong face and black hair. He is inspired by the beauty of Dorian. He thinks the picture shows the secret of his heart. He thinks he has put a lot of himself into the picture. He is worried about the terrible things people say about Dorian Gray. While Dorian continues being beautiful, Basil optimistically thinks that he also continues being truthful and loving. Dorian shows the picture to Basil. He is murdered by Dorian Gray in the locked room where the picture is hidden. His body is destroyed by Alan.

Sybil Vane
She is seventeen years old when she meets Dorian. She is an actress. She is the most beautiful girl Dorian has ever met. Dorian saw her for the first time in a theater. She performs as Juliet the day Dorian invites his friends to meet her. She knows what is real love because of Dorian. She commits suicide because Dorian doesnt want to be with her anymore. Dorian only loves her acting, her art.

He is Sybils brother. He adores his sister Sybil and swears to kill anyone that hurts her. He is a sailor. He leaves England and travels to Australia. He only knows that her sister calls Dorian Prince Charming He tries to kill Dorian. He is killed by accident (country)

James Vane

Alan Campbell
He's a scientist. He used to be Dorians friend. He must have done something wrong at one point, because Dorian shows him a letter with something written on it, and he accepts to help him. He's forced to make Basil's body disappear. He commits suicide after helping Dorian.
