Outline
What is OB? Why study OB? Who is a Manager? Why is OB important for a Manager? Case Study Conclusion
It is important to all management function, roles and skills The behavioral science disciplines of psychology, sociology, social psychology, anthropology and political science all contribute to the means of applying OB concepts
Contd
OB is a way of thinking OB is multidisciplinary The field of OB is performance oriented There is a distinctly humanistic orientation with OB The external environment is seen as having significant impact on OB
Case Study
20 Managers were Interviewed Work Experience : 5 to 25 years Industry : Healthcare, Aviation, Information Technology
While dealing with your subordinates have you used any motivational technique/leadership style studied by you in OB?
Few responses to techniques used to handle subordinates, which were gained by studying OB
I always use the Situational leadership style developed by Paul Hersey .....which has helped me a lot in handling difficult scenarios while dealing with subordinates
Have used and implemented various techniques from motivating subordinates to stress management
Understanding of human behavior comes only through experience, only studying a subject doesnt help
Do you think more weightage should be given to OB as a subject irrespective of specialization(chosen) in the management course?
Conclusion
A manager's job is to manage people, who constitute the "organization". If he can't understand these people (i.e. their behavior), the he cannot manage them effectively Study of OB gives a Manager conceptual clarity about various aspects of Human Behavior in an organizational set up hence he can tactfully handle people around him
