HINDUTAN MACHINE TOOLS LIMITED designed, built and commissioned with Indian talent, without any external assistance in a period of 17 months of breaking the ground on May 2, 1962. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru the then Prime Minister of INDIA formally inaugurated it on 23rd October 1963.

FOUNDRY SHOP
A foundry is a factory that produces metal castings. Metals are cast into shapes by melting them into a liquid, pouring the metal in a mold, and removing the mold material or casting after the metal has solidified as it cools. The most common metals processed are aluminium and cast iron. However, other metals, such as bronze, brass, steel, magnesium, and zinc, are also used to produce castings in foundries. In this process, parts of desired shapes and sizes can be formed.

HEAT TREATMENT SHOP

All components (manufactured in LMS) after undergoing machining operation are subjected to heat treatment. It is done so as to improve hardness

and strength of these components viz. gears and shafts.

Basic operations performed during heat treatment: 1.Hardening, 2.Quenching, 3.Annealing,

4.Tempering,
5.Normalizing, 6.Carburizing.

IN TOOL ROOM ALL PROCESS IS DONE AT 22 DGREE TEMPERATURE. TOOL ROOM IS USED FOR MAKING JIG AND FIXTURE.

HEAVY MACHINE SHOP

In heavy machine shop all the heavy part of tractor are machined like gear box housing, Main transmission housing, Front

cover etc. all the parts undergoes different operations like milling,
boring, drilling, tapping, slotting etc. in HMS section. The entire machines in this section are special purpose machine; it means the machine doing special or specific operation on a job.

The advantage of special purpose machine is that it increases

the rate of production. The machines are capable of machining any number of identical parts in a very less time.

Engine testing is done for checking the performance of newly assembled engine to find out any assembly fault, their HP, leakage and other fault.

Some Important Terms

Speed : The speed of an engine is the mean speed of its crank shaft in revolutions per minute (RPM), except in case of free piston engines where the speed is the number of cycles per minute , of the reciprocating components. Steady Load Speed Band: It is the maximum total variation in speed expressed as a %age of the mean speed, which may occur while there is no change in external load conditions. Indicated Power: It is the total power developed in the working

cylinder by the gases on the combustion side of the working pistons. Friction Power: It is the power consumed in frictional resistance. Brake Power: It is the total power measured at the driving shaft

Specific Fuel Consumption: It is the quantity of fuel consumed per unit of power per unit of time. It is generally expressed in gms of fuel consumed per kW hr or B.H.P./bp.
