MTV is is a music sharing website and also TV channel which in the UK has been divided into various other separate genres including, MTV base for urban rap and hip/hop music, MTV Dance and also MTV hits. The channel was launched on August 1, 1981 in there headquarters of New York City, the main purpose of the channel was to play music videos which were guided by TV personalities known as disk jockey. MTV was created for the purpose that music songs made by famous bands and artist could be strung together and played one after the other on the radio but also on television with a video containing the artist to accompany the music. The first band that utilized music videos to promote their records, were the Beatles in the mid 1960s, this led MTV decades later to honor the director of the Beatles debut film, A hard days night, with an award for in short term basically inventing the music video. A sides from Music MTVs main channel MTV One likes to focus on reality television as well as playing music videos, airing reality shows like Jersey shore and Punkd.

Kerrang! Is a UK based Magazine and television channel devoted to rock music published by Bauer Media Group. It was first published on the 6th of June 1981 as a one off supplement in the sounds newspaper. Named after the onomatopoeic word that derives from the sound made when playing a power chord on a distorted electric guitar, Kerrang! Was initially devoted to the new wave of British heavy metal and the rise of hard rock acts. In the early 2000s it became the best selling British music newspaper. In 2001 EMAP launched Kerrang! TV. As with the radio station, the television channel covers the more mainstream side of rock music as well as classic rock bands like, Areosmith and AC/DC, and classic heavy metal bands such as Guns N Roses and Metallica. Kerrang TV! Is now a joint venture between Bauer Media Group and Channel 4.

Q is a UK based music channel based on Q magazine, launched on the 2nd of October 2000. it was operated by Box television, and specialized in indie, rock and alternative music it is also available in the UK on sky channel 364 and virgin media channel 338. The channels name Q comes from (cue the Music) which is the channels slogan. The channel also plays a wide variety of music, predominantly Snow Patrol, Coldplay and Stereophonics. In common with other EMAP channels, Q was originally a jukebox channel, where music videos selections were made by the viewers using premium rate phone lines; however this element was dropped in 2004. on the 3rd of July 2012, Q closed and was replaced with Heat, a celebrity news and music TV channel.

VH1 is an American cable television network based in New York City. Launched on Tuesday January the 1st 1985 with the original purpose of the channel to build on the success of MTV by playing music videos, but targeting a slightly older demographic than its sister channel, focusing on the lighter, softer side of popular music. The channel was originally created by Warner-Amex Satellite Entertainment, at the time a division of Warner communications and owner of MTV. While VH1 still occasionally plays music videos and the Top 20 countdown, its more recent claim to fame has been in the area of music related reality programming, such as, behind the music, the I love the.. Series, the Celeb reality block of programming, and the channels overall focus on popular culture. VH1 focus was on the lighter and softer side of pop music, playing artists like Elton John and Rod Stewart in the hopes of appealing to people aged 18 to 35.
