Denotation: The two stars (Usher and Justin Bieber) position their bodies facing towards the camera

with direct eye contact. The picture has been taken with medium long shot as you can see their arms, waist and heads. Behind their heads is the masthead Billboard with black, bold, simple font with yellow and green in the letters O and D. Masthead: The font is black, bold and simple it is straightforward, therefore it stands out. Anyone can read the masthead, it is not complicated. There is yellow in the O and green in the D making the masthead look more appealing, interesting and eye catching to the reader. Green and yellow connotations are positive - hence green connotes peace, serenity and nature. Yellow connotes light, happiness and joy making the reader feel constructive when looking at the magazine. Also, Billboard is a very well known name due to the fame and success the company has achieved. This will make the magazine stand out from the other magazines on the shelf. It is known to have exclusive stars on the covers such as this one with Usher and Justin the music industry's top artists. Billboard is also a music chart and website in America containing all the current information of singers/bands and their songs.. References: The artists mentioned would open a wide variety of audience as they are all popular and there is a 89% chance of a random person finding at least one of these stars appealing. Moreover, the artists' name provides us with a sense of what the magazine will feature.

Full-Bleed Image: Usher and Justin Bieber are two of the most successful artists in the music industry. The fact that they are both on this magazine cover, illuminates how victorious the magazine is. This would attract a wide range of readers as Ushers target audience would be male/female adults whereas, Justins target audience would be females, aged 12-21. Their clothes are modern, fashionable and masculine which would attract female readers to their sense of style. Also, boys would look up to them as their icon/rolemodel due to Usher and Justins high status and popularity. Background: The background colour is blue blue is typically a masculine colour. This tells us that the majority of the target audience will be boys. However, it is a light blue so it may appeal to females too. Blue connotes intelligence, faith and confidence and that is the message the magazine is trying to establish to the reader.

Date and Time: This helps identify the reader to when the issue was released. Also, it notifies if the magazine is monthly or weekly and in this case it is monthly. This tell us that the magazine contains a lot of detailed Publisher logo: the company information. Sell Lines: Top Of Their Game makes the reader think, what did the stars do that they are at the top of their game? The white simple font emphasises the statement due to the dark background behind it and the red small rectangles that say Usher /Bieber helps identify who the statement is talking about. Also, the red rectangles may be small - but red is a striking colour that connotes danger, passion and love.

Target Audience: male/females aged between 16 30, typically this is the age where R&B music is most appreciated - they wouldnt be affected by the explicit material. The full bleed image of Chris Brown fits into this age group, hence young adults look up to the aspiring pop artists of today as role models this is the reason why VIBE are targeted at a younger audience , as theyre still confused about their identity and they seek for guidance or theyre simply interested in celebrity gossip. Moreover, most R&B artists themselves are either in their teenage years or just above this makes them more relatable to the reader. Masthead: it begins from the top left, as people begin to read from that side. The font is large and it is a luminous white colour that that makes it extremely visible to the reader, attracting the reader to it. The font is in bubble writing to comprehend with the target audience. The artist, Chris Brown is covering most of the masthead, this entails that he is a dominant R&B artist and is highly popular internationally. This makes the magazine look highly established and attract the consumers to buy the magazine. Price: the prince is centred on the barcode , however it is presented small. This is because the company brand is popular and the price may put off the reader in buying the magazine as it is slightly expensive. Puffs: provides appealing and powerful words, such as: rise, fall, mega, best and debarge.

Full-Bleed image: you can immediately clarify that the main subject of the magazine will be Chris Brown. He is standing right in the centre, wearing a bright orange top and he is looking directly into the camera the readers attention would divert directly to him. The image would attract multiple teenage boys/girls as Chris Brown is known to be highly popular amongst younger audiences with his latest songs and how he presents himself. The image of the protagonist would especially attract the teenage girl sector of the audience as he could be their idol, or celebrity crush. The image of the artist is a stereotypical representation of a black hip hop singer, there is a carefree attitude portrayed. Also, the chains around his neck and the lopsided hat on his head reinforces the gangster representation.

Cover line: This is extra information which is added onto the front cover, so that the reader can grasp a sense of what other storylines/features will be contained throughout the magazine

Headline: the words stand out a great deal, in some ways it stands out more than the masthead. They are the same colours so they compliment each other. This could have been done to emphasise that Chris Brown is more dominant than the brand itself. The words Chris Brown reveals what will be contained in the majority of the magazine.

Denotations: Lana is wearing a tiara, this connotes innocence and that she is princesslike. However, the blood may suggest otherwise it illuminates a clear contrast from the angel everybody thinks she is compared to the rebel which she says she can be. The font and colour of the sell line Lana Del Rey conveys a girly image of her. Moreover, the title Q is also another denotation, hence despite the pink theme on the front cover, it remains to be red to symbolise the legacy of the magazine as all Q magazines have the same Q. Furthermore, it stands out from the usual house colours. Her dress is girly and white which connotes purity and goodness linking in with the pink anchorage text. Headline: Lana Del Rey the text font is made to look as if it was written with lipstick which is effective in terms of the target audience, hence teenaged girls are stereotyped to like makeup. It is the most eye catching headline making it obvious along with the full bleed image that Lana is the main subject of the magazine. USP: a mid shot of Lana Del Rey to evoke her profile and body language. Sell line: the article anchored to the image of Lana, is using the word bloody which compliments the blood on Lanas face in the full-bleed image. This makes the reader think what is good about her and what is wrong with her. Also, the rhetorical question makes the magazine informal and opinionated.

Strapline: would appeal to both females and males as some of the words highlighted 140, YOU, DOWNLOAD are pink and white which would appeal to females and the rest of the words highlighted are yellow black which would appeal to males as black is typically a boyish colour. In the strapline it says 140 SONGS this would open up to a wide variety of audiences as the number of songs contributed is big and could specialise in a range for all sorts to appeal to the consumer.

Busswords: include exclusive and plus which appeals to readers as it offers the magazine a sense that they know more than the reader and tells the reader what they want to hear. Synthetic Personalisation: addresses the reader directly, which immediately makes the reader feel more involved. Price: the price is 3.00 indicating that the magazine will contain a lot of information as this is slightly pricey for an average consumer. This also envelopes that the magazine has a high status that it will cost this much.

Layout: The layout is busy and informal which would appeal to the target audience as it suggest that the magazine contains a lot of content that the reader would be interested in.

Feature: Jay Z and Kanye West the text is bold and relevant to the theme of this particular issue. The fact that this magazine contains such big stars indicates that Q magazine is a big deal and this would attract the reader to the magazine.
