Microsoft is word-processor software that let us create a variety of different documents such as:

Letters, Single file reports, Multiple file reports, Books, Brochures, Newsletters, and Web pages.

Word processing software let us: Create, Edit, Format, Store, Retrieve and Print a text document.

Is writing and composing the document.

Refers to making changes to the document to fix errors or improve it.

Uses of Word

We can use word at:


Home to create: Memos, letters, labels, envelops, stickers or flyers. School to create: Homework, theses, research notes, time tables or certificates. Work to create: Faxes, reports, contracts, business card, mail merge documents, CV.

We can create complex or specialized documents that are normally created by more specialized software such us:

Web Pages: It is easer to use than MS Front Page. Brochures, Business Cards: We can create a better job with MS Publisher.

Printer-ready publications: We can create a better job with dedicated desktop publishing packages such us Adobe PageMaker, Corel Ventura, Quark Press. Tables of numbers or other data: We can create a better job with MS Excel.

Why use Word for a task that can be performed with a more specialized software program?

Because it is already installed on our computer.

Why use Word for a task that can be performed with a more specialized software program?

The main reason is that you probably already know how to use Word, and the extra features of a more specialized program might not be worth the time required to learn a new software package, especially if you create only an occasional Web page, brochure, new paper, database or other specialized document.
