RIGHT TO INFORMATION ACT


INTRODUCTION-Right to information act was amended in year 2005 .The right to information is implicitly guaranted by the constitution .However with the view to set out a practical regime for securing information, the indian parliament enacted the right to information act 2005 and thus gave a powerful tool to the citizens to get information from the government as matter of right.

MEANING
The right to information act 2005 was enacted by the govt. for setting out framework for effectuating the right to information for citizens and to secure access the information under the control of public authorities, in order to promote transparency and accountability in the working of every public authority.

IMPORTANCE
Right to information act is an important milestone in the growth of democratic system in the country. It has removed the wall of secrecy built against the common people by those holding in authority. The act makes it statutory for the latter to reveal all the unclassified information when and where required by an ordinary citizens of the country.

RIGHT TO INFORMATION ACT 2005


A citizen has a right to seek such information from a public authority which is held by the public authority or which is held under its control. This right includes inspection of work, documents and records; taking notes, extracts or certified copies of documents or records and taking certified samples of material held by the public authority or held under the control of the public authority. The public information officer is not supposed to create information, or to interpret information, or to solve the problem raised by the applicants, or to furnish replies to hypothetical questions.

METHOD OF SEEKING INFORMATION


A citizen who desire to obtain any information under the Act, should make an application to the public information officer of the concern public authority in writing in english or hindi or in the official language of the area in which the application is made. Application should be precise and specific. He should make payment of application fees which is rupees ten. People who are below poverty line doesnt require to pay application fees.

CONCLUSION
Democracy requires an informed citizenry and transparency of citizen of information which are vital to its functioning also to contain corruption and hold government and their instrumentalities accountable to the government. Revelation of information in actual practice is like to conflict with other public interest including efficient operations of government optimum use of limited fiscal resources and the presentation of confidential of sensitive information And whereas it is necessary to harmonies these conflicting interest while preserving the paramountancy of the democratic idea Now therefore it is expedient to provide for furnishing certain info to citizens to desire to have it.
