1 in every 3 African-Americans have high blood pressure. More than 2.2 million blacks have diabetes with 27 % higher death rate than whites.

Blacks are Less likely to receive treatment.

Health Care in Black America


70 % of black adults are overweight. -- more than half of all black women are overweight. BLACK WOMEN Are 80% MORE LIKELY to die of stroke.

Establishing a System of Education Geared for Achievement


4th graders -- 12% of blacks are above the basic level. -- 61% are below the basic level.

45% of black adults were in lowest category on literacy test. 18% of black students have failed a grade.

Correcting the System of Unequal Justice

2.1 million inmates // 910,000 blacks. 1 in 3 black males can expect to go to prison. 1.4 million blacks lost vote due to the penal system.

Accessing Good Jobs, Wealth, and Economic Prosperity


Overall living status of blacks is 73% of whites.

Economic status of blacks is only 56% of whites.


One in 10 blacks is unemployed. - 2 times the rate of whites. Unemployment among black males is 50% in some cities. - now at a 20 yr. high.

Exploring how Forum can promote Covenant.

The Covenant in Action


Concord Baptist Church. National discussion on African American policy agenda for economic and social equity (Very large turnout). Pastor developed a 10 week Covenant Sermon Series. Developed a Biblical Framework for each covenant. City of San Francisco. Town Hall Meeting Covenant Tour. Initiative Taken by Mayors Office. Approximately 1200 African Americans Attended. National Center for Black Philanthropy. Theme for Its 6th Annual National Conference (Covenant). Conference could examine how to increase overall funding in black communities.

What Type Of Actions Might SJBC Church Take?


Be the focal point for getting the Covenant word out in Howard County (we want document read). Make sure no black child comes through SJBC without knowing their black history in-depth. Spread Black History to every African American child in Howard County.

Make sure every child in SJBC graduates with a B average (or Their Highest Possible Achievement) from High School and attains a four year college degree.
