The National Association for Healthcare Quality (NAHQ) is a leading organization for healthcare quality management professionals. The Healthcare Quality Certification Board (HQCB) is the certifying arm of NAHQ.
The HQCB establishes policies, procedures, and standards for certification and recertification in the field of healthcare quality management.

The Healthcare Quality Certification Board

It was formed in 1976 to advance the profession of healthcare quality management through the development of a certification program. The CPHQ program is fully accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies of the National Organization for Competency Assurance in Washington, D.C. It is the only international voluntary certification program in the field of healthcare quality management to achieve this accreditation.

Granting of Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) status recognizes professionals and academic achievement through the individuals participation in this international voluntary certification program.

Current Status
A modest group of 226 adventurous and confident professionals who sat for the first exam in 1984
Over 600 candidates registering for the exam each year. With an average overall pass rate of 72%, there are over 7500 active CPHQs practicing in the United Sates and Internationally.

After the Exam

Testing agency forwards list of passing candidates to HQCB monthly (first week of month for previous month).
HQCB sends a congratulatory letter, CPHQ pin, and informational items about 2 weeks after the close of the month. .

Recertification
Obtaining and maintaining documentation of thirty (30) CE hours over the two-year recertification cycle and payment of a recertification fee. All continuing education must relate to areas covered in the most current examination content outline. Current employment in the quality management field is not required to maintain active CPHQ status.
