How Medical Transcription evolved to one of todays biggest job opportunities.

US Federal Law requires documentation of every physician-patient encounter. HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996)

Everyone who has access to, creates, processes, or uses protected health information (PHI) is accountable for its protection. Law is in process of enforcement since April 13, 2003.

Traditionally transcriptions were done from the United States (Home MTs) Internet, faster data transfer bandwidth rates, more advanced system solutions, and secure encryption and storage technologies with lower operational costs have allowed offshore outsourcing to grow rapidly.

EMPLOYABILITY OF A MEDICAL TRANSCRIPTIONIST

The employability of an MT will depend on the quality and quantity of work produced. MT companies usually require a minimum of 400 500 lines per day at 95+% accuracy upon entry. MTC Academy raises the bar in training its students by setting the standard at

Pre-OJT requirement - A line count of 300 to 349 lines per day at 90+% accuracy Post-OJT requirement - A line count of 350 to 500 lines per day at 95+% accuracy

To be competitive in the job market, MTC Academy encourages its students to go beyond the standard set by the industry, specially for those perceived to be over-age, non-med, undergrads, and other discriminatory factors affecting an individuals employability

QUANTITY & QUALITY DEFINED . . .

QUANTITY

The line count represents the number of lines transcribed in the medical report produced by the MT as dictated by the doctor / health care professional The degree of acceptability of the medical report by the client doctor usually expressed in percentage of accuracy (98%)

QUALITY

EXCELLENT MONEY!
According to Fortune Magazine

IN THE U N I T E D S T A T E S, YOULL MAKE MORE

If you type faster If you work more If you get your computer doing some of the work for you If you make more than 6 cents a line, double that if you get your own client If you are fortunate enough to have work in places with higher standards of living, such as California or New York Some people have been known to average between $40 and $50 AN HOUR! Most people make MORE THAN $20 AN HOUR. Any way you look at it, medical transcriptionists make EXCELLENT MONEY!

BOTTOM LINE - An MT Training program clearly is well worth the investment.

My name is Sally Waijing Lo, 41 years of age, and a non-medical course degree holder. I enrolled at MTC Academy in January 2004 and just on my fourth month of schooling, I was already able to do home-based transcription, serving one client at first. After my graduation, I have acquired more clients such that my average income currently reaches P70,000 a month. I attribute my success to my training with MTCA, coupled with my determination to pursue my MT career.
