Six Sigma is one of the most popular quality methods. Today, Six Sigma processes are being executed in a vast array of organizations and in a wide variety of functions. The goal of Six Sigma is not to achieve six sigma levels of quality, but to improve profitability. Six Sigma, improvements brought about by quality programs, such as Total Quality Management (TQM) and ISO 9000. Six Sigma recognizes that there is a direct correlation between the number of product defects, and the level of customer satisfaction. In short, it is a method to eliminate defects and the opportunity for defects.

Six Sigma is a rigorous and a systematic methodology that utilizes information (management by facts) and statistical analysis to measure and improve a company's operational performance.
Six Sigma can be understood at three levels Metric: A statistical concept that measures a process in terms of defects-at the level 3.4 defects per million opportunities. Methodology: DMAIC/DFSS structured problem solving roadmap and tools. Philosophy: Reduce variation in your business and take customerfocused, data driven decisions.

The term sigma is a Greek alphabet letter () used to describe variability. In Six Sigma, the common measurement index is DPMO (Defects Per Million Operations)

A sigma quality level offers an indicator of how often defects are likely to occur, where a higher sigma quality level indicates a process that is less likely to create defects. To have a more comprehensive understanding about sigma quality level, it will be explained from two perspectives of process capability: short-term and longterm process capabilities

Ultimately, Six Sigma is a superb strategy that addresses leadership, tools and infrastructure issues, some of which were neglected by previous programs. Six Sigma is a powerful data driven, customer focused, top management led formal process aimed at reducing defects as defined by the customers using the DMAIC . Six Sigma is by far the most successful Management Approach and has delivered results. A company's quality mission of Six Sigma can be a noble pursuit of process perfection.
