Experimenting Photography

Vickie Blair
This image that Vickie Blair has created, is a mixture of two photos. One photo was of the man with his hands down to the side, so you could see his face, and then the second one was of him with his hand up and covering his face. he then put them !oth in Photoshop and layered one over the other. he then used went into !lending modes and chose "pin light#. $fter this, she ru!!ed out areas in the top layer that she did not want to !e in the photograph. This image gave the effect that the person had his hands over his face, yet you can still see his facial features such as his eyes, mouth and nose. %t is as if he has had a face tattooed on to his hands. This image is definitely contemporary !ecause it is a very modern day image. &ou would never have !een a!le to achieve this !efore any digital editing programs came out. This means that it is a non' traditional image. $lthough it uses traditional methods of photography, such as starting off with two simple images, it is still non traditional, !ecause the ma(ority of the work done on this image has !een done in Photoshop, which is a digital editing program. Even though it is titled "Experimenting with Photoshop#, % don#t think it really descri!es what has really !een done, !ut it is (ust simply a !lending of two images.

)ith Vickie Blair not !eing a massively known artist, % would say that her work would most pro!a!ly (ust !e displayed on her own personal !log, or we!site for

Ben(amin *elacour
Ben(amin *elacour created an image using Photoshop where the skin of a person looked as if it was pealing off, and floating away in a digital looking manner. /e called it digital skin. %n order to accomplish this effect, you have to use Photoshop to create a s0uared grid across the whole image. 1emove the grids that go across the outside of the face !ecause they wont !e needed, and then warp the remaining grids using the warp tool. &ou then set the grid layer to an opacity of 2.3, so you can slightly see it, and then start creating s0uared holes in the face with the pen tool. These !locks will then !e moved out to a position of your choice. There can !e a few more added effects you can create with these !locks, such as making them 4*, and also making the depth of the holes in the person !igger. &ou can also add in a smoke effect which makes it look as if the !locks have !een sucked away from the persons skin which is 0uite nice. This image is contemporary !ecause it uses non' traditional methods such as Photoshop. There is no other possi!le way of making an image of a persons skin look as if it is !een sucked away unless you are manipulating it on a piece of computer editing software such as Photoshop. Ben(amin *elacour is not an extremely known artist, !ut he is very talented, and his work is recognised. /is work would most pro!a!ly !e displayed on his own

*avid /ockney
*avid /ockney was an English photographer painter, printmaker, and stage designer. he is !ased in Bridlington in &orshire, England, and 5ensington, 6ondon. /e is considered one of the most influential British artist of the twentieth century. This image that he created on the right was actually created out of many different smaller images to create one !ig one. %n order to do this, you must !e extremely patient, and very accurate when trying to take a picture of such a large space like this one to the right. %t is a lot easier to create an image like this up close !ecause there isn#t as much space you have to cover with the camera. %t is also a lot easier in these days, !ecause if you put all the images into Photoshop, it will automatically put them all together for you, as !est as it can. 7any years ago, when there was no such thing as Photoshop, /ockney used to create these photo montages with a Polaroid camera, and then once he had finished doing these images, he would then put them together like a (igsaw. Even in these days with Photoshop, it can sometimes not !e relia!le, !ecause you may not get out exactly what you were expecting. Photoshop is sometimes that good that is can connect the images together perfectly, which (ust gives you that one simple looking image. This defeats the purpose of what you are actually trying to get out of a photo

% think that this image is historical, !ecause it is an old piece of photography. % know that /ockney actually did these types of images 0uite a long time ago now. $lthough it could !e non'traditionally done !y doing it on Photoshop, this particular image was done traditionally as a paper collage. )ith *avid /ockney !eing 0uite an influential artist, % would say that his work, including the piece a!ove could have possi!ly !een displayed in a gallery.

aim akiroglu
aim akiroglu is a person who created the picture on the right. % could not really find much on this person !ecause it is all !locked, !ut % found the image and a name of the person who created it. The image that this person created is an ordinary photo of someone smoking, and then the smoke that the person was smoking has had a colour change. This is called "smoke art#. %t is a well known effect which can !e created out of any image. &ou can change a persons face into smoke with this effect if you really wanted to. )ith the smoke a completely different colour, it gives the image a completely different look. %t is a nice change to see smoke in a different colour to it#s usual dull look. This image is contemporary !ecause it is only possi!le to do this with software on a computer such as Photoshop. %t makes the method of this work non' traditional !ecause of the modern techni0ues that are used, such as the multicoloured smoke. )ith aim akiroglu !eing 0uite hard to find anything on them, % would assume that they are not particularly known for the images they produce, and so % would say that their images would !e shown on a personal we!site for anyone to see. This would mean you could possi!ly get some recognition off the world, and !y the looks of things, akiroglu#s image has done
