History of Tea Policies in India

Tea Act 1953,functioning in April 1954. Its headquarters are in Kolkata with seventeen offices across India. Various developmental and regulatory functions, the Tea Board of India undertakes direct promotional activities which include organising joint participation in international fairs and exhibitions, arranging buyer-seller meets and sending and hosting trade delegations. It aksi undertakes various market development activities such as market surveys, market analysis, tracking of consumer behaviour and dissemination of all relevant information to exporters/importers.

The Tea Board India is responsible for the assignment of certification numbers to exports of certain tea merchants. This certification is intended to ensure the teas origin, which in turn would reduce the amount of fraudulent labelling on rare teas such as ones harvested in Darjeeling. The excessive[citation needed] amounts of faux Darjeeling tea sold on the global market relates in stark opposition to the fraction of exporters which are licensed by the Tea Board India as legitimate traders of this region.

The Tea Board Indias tasks include endorsement of the diverse production and productivity of tea, financial support of research organizations and the monitoring of advances in tea packaging as it relates to health beneficial aspects.

It coordinates research institutes, the tea trade and government bodies, ensuring the technical support of the tea trade in the global industry.

Offices are located in Kolkata, London, Moscow and Dubai.

All tea comes from the Camellia sinensis plant. What makes each tea different is the way it has been processed. Tea can be placed into 6 groups based on the amount of processing that goes into the final product.Black Tea This tea goes through the most processing. Once the leaves are picked they are left out in the sun to become slightly wilted. The leaves are then rolled to break open their tissue. The inner chemicals react with the air and begin to ferment. During the fermentation, the leaves darken and change from green to red and finally to black. After the fermenting is complete, the leaves are dried and then packaged.
