Abstract

This project comprises of Designing and Experimental investigation of Steel Trusses In this project, Structural analysis and design were carried out as per IS:800:2007 Calculation of loads were made according to IS:875 Part-3 The location of the Building is considered to be near Erode and the calculations were made. Then a prototype of similar truss is to be fabricated and it is investigated according to the loading conditions.

Introduction
DESCRIPTION OF STRUCTURAL ELEMENTS PRINCIPAL RAFTER : The top inclined member of the truss extending from the eaves level to the ridge is known as principal rafter. They are mainly compression members PRINCIPAL TIE : The bottom most member of the truss, which is kept horizontal in most of the cases. They are mainly tension members

TIES : These are the tension members of the truss STRUTS: These are the compression members of the truss PURLIN : Purlins are structural members which are supported on the principal rafter, and which run transverse to the trusses. Purlins support the roof covering ROOF COVERING: Roof coverings are mostly in the form of corrugated sheets of galvanised iron or asbestos cement sheets.

Dimension Details
Span of Truss =36.88m Spacing of Truss=9.19m

Specification-TRUSS

Principal rafter and Principal tie

Two ISMC 125 sections connected back to back

Sag tie
Two ISMC 125 sections connected front to front

Ties and Struts

ISMC 125 sections

Specification-PURLIN

Triangular purlin is used in this project

Three ISA 35X35X5 sections were connected using 10mm dia rods The usage of this kind of purlin reduces the steel quantity

Joint Details All the connection between the structural members were made using Welding

Quantity Surveying of Purlin

According to estimate 108.95 kg of steel is required to fabricate a purlin of 9.19m span 4 nos of bolts were Required 4 nos of end plate were Required 2 nos of cleat plate were Required

Designof Purlin
Design of purlin is made Section classification is made Check for shear and deflection were checked and it is found to be safe Then detailing is made

Design of Truss
Analysis of truss is made using STAAD-Pro V8i for 9 different load conditions. Correctness of the results has been identified as too large. Check has to be made. Design has to be proceeded

Format Making
Excel format for calculating DL,LL,WL has been made Format for Design of Purlin and Design of Truss has to be made..,
