Dengue viruses are positive-sense, single-stranded RNA viruses belonging to the genus Flavivirus, family Flaviviridae (5). The four antigenically distinct serotypes of dengue virus (dengue-1, -2, -3 and -4) cause an estimated 100 million infections, resulting in widespread dengue fever (DF) and at least 250000 cases of dengue haemorrhagic fever (DHF), each year (8).
