Mechanical Engineering

Aluna: Vivian Machado

What is the first thing that comes

to your minds when you hear about mechanical engineering?

First of all, Mechanical Engineering is the application

of basic sciences and math in projects, manufacturing, analysis, maintenances, and management of mechanical systems. Mechanical engineers are constantly pushing the boundaries of what is physically possible in order to produce safer, cheaper, and more efficient machines and mechanical systems, therefore, they use a lot of new technologies and make ongoing researches.

Major sub areas

Thermal Fluids
Materials Projects Manufacturing processes

Thermal Fluids
Thermal heat
Fluids liquids, gases and vapors Is a branch of engineering that studies about heat

transfer and fluid mechanics.

Heat Transfer
Heat Transfer is a thermal energy in transition

between physical systems. This transition can happen in 3 ways that are:
Conduction Convection Radiation

Materials
The sub area named Materials is the study and

development of new materials and improvement of the already existent. It is in this area that we study the relationship between the structure of materials at atomic or molecular scales and their macroscopic properties. Steel Iron Aluminum Metal alloys. Polymers

Projects
When we talk about projects, it is way more

comprehensive, because it is when we imagine and create machines, objects, cars, airplanes, rockets or a simple screw. It is also when we study about the market, the peoples necessities, how to produce, how much money and time we will spend. CAD (computer aided designer). Project is the most embracing branch.

Manufacturing processes
Finally is the sub area that corresponds to the building

and the giving life for the ideas. With large different processes we can start with a small piece of steel and transform it in an important piece for motion transmission, like a gear.
