TO DESIGN AND ANALYSE DIFFERENT PROFILES FOR CONTRACTION CONE AND DIFFUSER SECTION. TO ANALYSE THESE PROFILES FOR THEIR PERFORMANCE AND EFFICIENCY USING FEM/CFD SOFTWARE. TO RESEARCH THE MARKET FEASIBILITY OF THE PROJECT.
RECAPTULATION
During the minor project research, we have calculated the dimensions for an open circuit subsonic wind tunnel model to test a standard size automobile prototype.
The assumptions for the modelling are as follows: Maximum wind velocity at Test section is 50m/s Flow rate at wind tunnel is 180m3/s Maximum length of wind tunnel is 24m

Length: 5 m Breath: 2 m Height: 1.8 m
Contraction Cone Length: 5 m Inlet Dimensions: Breadth: 6.67 m Height: 6 m Outlet Conditions: Breadth: 2 m Height: 1.8 m
Diffuser Section
Length: 6 m Inlet Dimensions: Breadth: 2 m Height: 1.8 m Outlet Conditions: Breadth: 2.31 m Height: 2.56 m
In the design of flow-conditioning contractions for low-speed (i.e. <50m/s) wind tunnels, several desirable characteristics of the wall profile are identified, including: A wall profile having zero first and second derivatives, and inlet and outlet profile radii roughly proportional to the area, that is, the inlet radius is greater than the outlet radius. The straight wall profile of contraction cone might not give the best results and for that purpose we try different profiles to thus obtain curve smoothness and efficiency. The result is hoped to be the most favourable combination of flow uniformity, thin boundary layers, and negligible losses.

2. DIFFUSER
A relatively thin boundary layer with steady flow conditions at entry would no doubt delay separation and improve pressure recovery considerably. Conversely, non-uniform or inclined entry flow can lead to early separation. It has been found that a swirling flow in the wideangle diffuser (such as that produced by a single-inlet centrifugal blower) decreased the diffuser efficiency, but it can be used to advantage in preventing separation. The effect of inlet conditions on the outlet velocity profile is less in screened diffusers than in any other type of diffuser.
We hereby use Cubic polynomial equations, Fourth Degree equations and Fifth Degree Polynomial equations and thus plot their curves in MATLAB to find the best possible wall profile in Contraction Cone.
