COPENHAGEN

MARCH 2008
Biomega

Biomega is a premium urban bicycle brand, alone in it's

category. We design and develop unique bicycles and related
accessories. The company is committed to contribute to the world
by creating lifestyle oriented, CO2 friendly alternatives to cars and
thereby reducing CO2 emission and helping create clean city
centres.
Biomega makes 'furniture for locomotion' that starts in urban
functionality and ends in high design

Biomega was founded in 1998 by Jens Martin Skibsted

Biomega - Our philosophy

Imagine the ideal city. If you’re like us, that city is clean. Peaceful. Stunning. No
less energized than the urban environments in which we currently thrive, but more
focused, more pure, and in tune with the natural world.
That dream is what drives us in the creation of our urban-landscape-changing
bikes. Our goal is to create a paradigm shift in the way society imagines
transportation. To compete directly with cars by constructing bikes that are so
beautiful that they imbue our cities with new meaning, even as they make us
healthier, happier and more connected than a car ever could. Simply put, our
bikes – and the trendsetters who ride them – have the ability to transform the
world into a more beautiful place, and to blend our dreams for the future with the
needs of the present. Our bikes are meant to usher in a new age in city living. All it
takes is one look – and one ride – to understand the difference we can make, as
bike, rider, and style become one.

Jens Martin Skibsted
Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Boston & Brooklyn

• Jens Martin Skibsted founded Biomega in 1998

with a goal of creating “furniture for locomotion”—
gallery-quality bikes that change the way we feel
about urban transport. In the decade that has passed
since then, his groundbreaking, forward-thinking
designs have been displayed at the San Francisco
Museum of Modern Art, New York’s Museum of
Modern Art, Centre National des Arts Plastiques, just
to name a few. Skibsted’s designs are being used by
city dwellers around the world as a meaningful
alternative to cars.

• In 2008 Jens Martin was the co-author of the book

“Instant Icon”
Marc Newson
MN

• Marc Newson is one of the most accomplished

and influential designers of his generation. He
has worked across a wide range of disciplines to
create everything from chairs to household
objects. Newson’s designs are present in most
major permanent museum collections including
the Museum of Modern Art in New York, London’s
Design Museum, Musée National d'Art Moderne -
Centre Georges Pompidou and the Vitra Design
Museum.

• Newson’s unique vision is what led to the

creation of our class-leading MN line of urban
transport bikes.
Ross Lovegrove
Bamboo

• Ross Lovegrove´s career took off when he was invited

to join the Atelier de Nimes along with Jean Nouvel and
Philippe Stark, consultants for among others Louis
Vuitton and Hèrmes. He has completed projects for
British Airways, Kartell, Cappellini, Moroso, Mazda,
Olympus and Tag Heuer. He is the winner of numerous
international awards and his work has been published
and exhibited internationally including the Museum of
Modern Art in New York, the Guggenheim Museum, NY,
Axis Center, Japan, Pompidou Centre, Paris and the
Design Museum, London.

• Ross Lovegrove was inspired by the idea of moving

people from cars to bikes – making the shift a lifestyle
choice, and showing the rest of the world that major
cities should be controlled by bikes and not cars.
Beatrice Santicciolli
Aspen Pearl White

• Beatrice Santicciolli is a visual designer who not

only studies color and color theory, but also
materials and construction techniques in order to
create living tones that inspire passion in consumers
and artists alike. Over the years, Beatrice
Santicciolli has put her talents to use for a veritable
who’s-who of design, including Apple, Nike, Swatch
and Herman Miller.

• Beatrice Santicciolli is the genius behind the

majority of our wonderfully luminous, stunning
colors such as Cocoa Brown, Park Green, Indigo Blue
and A.P.White which complete our creations of bikes
that connect on an emotional, as well as a
philosophical level.
Design principals
• Integration
Making our gears, cables, head covers, brakes and transmissions work seamlessly
together. Protects and embellishes our holistic bikes.

• Visibility
We have got the world's top designers - like Marc Newson, Ross Lovegrove and Karim
Rashid - to design our bikes, so you won't just stand out to car drivers with our
reflectors or Nightglow technology - you'll stand out among the chic-est urban
populations in the world due to the unique design.

• Drivability
Our bikes are user-friendly and built for city life. Why? Try new power transmission
systems, continuous gears, slick tires, dynamic and purpose specific geometries and
our vaunted steel- feel.

• Low Maintenance
Our bikes are engineered to perfection with long-lasting, low-maintenance anodized
aluminum and stainless-steel parts.
Uniquely Biomega
Explaining the tech behind our groundbreaking bikes

Our one-of-a-kind shaft drive is completely enclosed, and efficiently turns pedal
movement into forward motion. This integrated, sealed transmission offers a host of advantages: no greasy
trousers, little maintenance, and extreme durability. Plus, the shaft has less transmission loss than the average
chain-drive system. While chains rust and chew up your cuffs, the shaft just gets better and better.

Our stem utilizes an integrated head cover, which prevents rusting and keeps
contaminants from finding their way inside the mechanism. The stem itself is machined out of a solid block
of aluminium, so it’s extremely tough—and, as it’s designed by Marc Newson, it’s also simply
marvellous to behold.

Most Biomega rear hubs have low-maintenance continuous internal gears, which
simplify the shifting process. No longer are there multiple external cogs that amount to only a small gear
range; instead, you get a no-fuss, clean look that makes any trip, at any speed, an absolute breeze.
Uniquely Biomega
Explaining the tech behind our groundbreaking bikes

This unique bike-frame geometry combines the ease of movement and quick turning ability of a BMX bike with
the absolute urban usability of a hybrid bike. For sporty urban users, there may be no better mix—
and no better ride.

One gear, no fuss, just go. Singlespeed bikes remove shifting from the bike-riding equation, so the bikes are as easy
to use as it gets, with little maintenance and minimum transmission losses.

Our integrated locking system features the Down Tube Wire chain lock. The DT-Wire replaces the traditional
down tube to become a structural part of the frame; if a would-be thief cuts the wire, the bike won’t work.
Bingo: Theft prevented.
Uniquely Biomega
Explaining the tech behind our groundbreaking bikes

Our fast and simple semi-folding mechanism (including folding pedals) makes it easy to carry the bike on
public transportation, in a car, or on an elevator, or store it in your apartment. Your bike is the ultimate
urban necessity—you should be able to take it everywhere you go.

Some of our designs combine an integrated rear-hub roller brake with a front disc brake, for a slightly less
aggressive look. As 80% of braking power is in front, the bikes are still high-efficiency stoppers.

For city dwellers, transportation often requires plenty of starts and stops—some of which have to happen
quickly. Twin disc brakes provide the ultimate in braking power, so you can stop on a dime,
whenever necessary.
Copenhagen
The beauty lies in its simplicity

The Copenhagen represents a paradigm

shift in city transportation. Designed by
Jens Martin Skibsted, the Copenhagen is
the first internationally available shaft-
driven bike, and our unyielding passion for
improvement continues to build upon its
early success. With an elegantly finished
frame, internally routed cables, and
speed-oriented geometry, the
Copenhagen combines a polished look
with a lighthearted quickness and a
comfortable ride. There may be no mode
of transportation that is so indulgent yet
utilitarian, sensible yet stylish. What more
could you ask for in a city bike?

Copenhagen Lady
A sleek, glamorous ride

The Copenhagen Lady. Designed by

Jens Martin Skibsted, softens the
straightforward edge of the
Copenhagen – slightly – to embrace
the feminine form . The delicate
luster of the elegantly finished
frame, the uncluttered look of the
internally routed cables, the
pleasant-to-pedal shaft drive, and
the mind-clearing, perception-
altering ride combine to create a
bike that’s the ultimate combination
of gallery-worthy design and
understated style. The Copenhagen
Lady lets you travel with speed,
class, and ease. Hear Children
playing, listen to the birds chirping;
city life will never feel the same
again.

Brooklyn
Ad bounce to your moves
The Brooklyn is urban in the American
sense of the word. It is designed with
a free style BMX in mind with heavy
duty steel pedals and frame. The
wheels are smaller and the tires are
extremely fat to give it a bouncing
ability yet unseen. There’s nothing
practical about this town hopper
made for keeping it fun regardless of
how harsh the terrain might be. You
can take this bike from your habitual
city playground to a dune or a heap
of snow and maintain your thrust.. Try
the toughest free style grind yet - in
luxury.

Bamboo
Your ride, made natural

True innovation requires an open mind, a

willingness to embrace new ideas—or to
create a completely new way of thinking.
That principle is what led to the creation of
the Ross Lovegrove-designed Bamboo, a
new addition to the Biomega line for 2008.
When properly prepared, fast-growing
bamboo is stronger than steel, with a
wonderfully natural radiance. This
intricately finished yet highly functional
bike is handmade in Denmark to our
exacting standards. Combined with our
low-maintenance shaft drive, the Bamboo
is the ideal personification of your desire
to reintroduce the wonder of the natural
world into today’s urban environment.
