Operating System

An operating system or OS is
a software program that enables
the computer hardware to
communicate and operate with the
computer software.

Types of operating systems
Multi-user

Real-time Operating System
A real-time operating
system is a multitasking
operating system that aims at
executing real-time applications.
A multi-user operating
system is a system that
allows computers to
accommodate multiple
numbers of users.
Multi-tasking Operating System
A multi-tasking operating system
allows more than one program to be
running at the same time, from the
point of view of human time scales.
Distributed Operating System

A distributed operating
system manages a group of
independent computers and
makes them appear
to be a single computer.
Embedded Operating System
Embedded operating systems are
designed to be used in embedded
computer systems. They are able
to operate with a limited number of
resources. They are very compact
and extremely efficient by design.
Components of a Operating System
A kernel is
the one who
connects the
application
software to the
hardware of a
computer
a)Kernel
b) Networking
Is the act of linking
computers so that users can
exchange information or share
access to a central store of
information.

c) Security
It covers all the processes and
mechanisms by which computer-based
equipment, information and services are
protected from unintended or unauthorized
access, change or destruction. Computer
security also includes protection from
unplanned events and natural disasters.
d) User interface
Visual part of computer application
or operating system through which
a user interacts with a computer or
a software. It determines how commands
are given to the computer or
the program and how
information is displayed on
the screen.
Intranet
A privately
maintained computer network that
only authorized persons
can access.
Advantages of
Intranet
1. Commercial or confidential
files or information is kept secure with
in the organization
2. emails became private and also
encrypted or encoded.
4. You don't need a special
program to view information to the
emploees;
5. Easy to learn and use
3. Reliable. The company or
organization has IT personnel to keep
things running smoothly.
The Internet is a massive
network of networks, a networking
infrastructure. It connects
millions of computers together
globally, forming a network in
which any computer can
communicate with any other
computer as long as
they are both connected
to the Internet.
