Green building is the practice of increasing the
efficiency with which buildings use resources such as
energy, water, and materials, while reducing building
impacts on human health and the environment, through
better siting, design, construction, operation, maintenance.

The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) has launched the Green building
Rating System to address the National priorities
LEED is the type of green building rating system
and it has set of specifications which should be
followed to acquire LEED certification for any
buildings.

Why Certify?
While LEED Rating Systems can be useful just as tools for building
professionals, there are many reasons why LEED certification is an asset

Commitment to environment issue is
recognized.
Receive third party validation of achievement.
Qualify for growing array of state & local
government initiatives.
Leadership in Energy and
Environmental Design (LEED)
General procedure to achieve LEED certification are
Registering with the IGBC
Use resources provided by IGBC
Design the home to meet the rating criteria
Precertification documentation should be
submitted
Design documentation should be submitted to
IGBC

Environmental Design (LEED).
Submitted documents will be reviewed by IGBC.
Construction documentation should be submitted to
IGBC based on IGBC first review comments.

Telus Building Project
The William Farrell Project was conceived to satisfy a number of internal
business needs and revitalize a high profile location to create a strong
Telus, a major Canadian telephone company, presence in downtown
Vancouver. The project scope included extensive interior and exterior
renovations to the 1940's section of the building, Telus mandated that the
existing building should be recycled and re-used, and that green strategies
should be incorporated.
Main Green Features of the project
The client (Telus) and the
architects developed a strategic
green option to recycle/reuse the
entire building.
Allows opportunities for natural
ventilation in summer and acts as a
warm buffer zone in winter

Main Green Features of the project
Raised access floor provides flexibility for upgrading mechanical and
electrical systems.
The building has bicycle storage; change rooms and showers.
The building uses PV powered fans to assist the natural ventilation.
Interior light shelves extend the natural daylight into the interior spaces.
The primary heating is to reuse waste heat from the existing
refrigeration plant within the same complex.
