Ward uns viel frwahr aus der Vorzeit
berichtet,
Wie Knige khn ihre Kraft erprobten.
Der Garbensohn Scyld hat oft grimme Feinde,
Viel mutige Krieger vom Metsitz verjagt
Und Furcht verbreitet. In frher Jugend
Fand man hilflos ihn auf, doch Heil erspro

Unterm Wolkendach wuchs er, an Wrden

Bis alle endlich ihm untertan wurden,
Die am Wege des Wals ihren Wohnsitz

Lo,
praise of the prowess of people-kings

of spear-armed Danes, in days long sped,

we have heard, and what honor the athelings won!

Oft Scyld the Scefing from squadroned foes,

from many a tribe, the mead-bench tore,

awing the earls. Since erst he lay

friendless, a foundling, fate repaid him:

for he waxed under welkin, in wealth he throve,

till before him the folk, both far and near,

who house by the whale-path, heard his mandate,

gave him gifts: a good king he!

Listen:
You have heard of the Danish Kings
in the old days and how
they were great warriors.
Shield, the son of Sheaf,
took many an enemy's chair,
terrified many a warrior,
after he was found an orphan.
He prospered under the sky
until people everywhere
listened when he spoke.
He was a good king!

That wasn't for long!
He waxed under clouds

and his word was law

He was a good king!

Beer is the world's most widely consumed and probably the oldest of
alcoholic beverages; it is the third most popular drink overall, after
water and tea. It is produced by the brewing and fermentation of
starches, mainly derived from cereal grains most commonly
malted barley, although wheat, maize (corn), and rice are widely
used. Most beer is flavoured with hops, which add bitterness and act
as a natural preservative, though other flavourings such as herbs or
fruit may occasionally be included. Some of humanity's earliest
known writings refer to the production and distribution of beer: the
Code of Hammurabi included laws regulating beer and beer
parlours, and "The Hymn to Ninkasi", a prayer to the Mesopotamian
goddess of beer, served as both a prayer and as a method of
remembering the recipe for beer in a culture with few literate people.
Today, the brewing industry is a global business, consisting of
several dominant multinational companies and many thousands of
smaller producers ranging from brewpubs to regional breweries.

Association football, commonly known as football or soccer, is a
sport played between two teams of eleven players with a spherical
ball. It is the world's most popular sport.
The game is played on a rectangular field of grass or green artificial
turf, with a goal in the middle of each of the short ends. The object of
the game is to score by driving the ball into the opposing goal. In
general play, the goalkeepers are the only players allowed to touch
the ball with their hands or arms, while the field players typically use
their feet to kick the ball into position, occasionally using their torso
or head to intercept a ball in midair. The team that scores the most
goals by the end of the match wins. If the score is tied at the end of
the game, either a draw is declared or the game goes into extra time
and/or a penalty shootout, depending on the format of the
competition.
Jazz is a music genre that originated at the beginning of the 20th century in
African American communities in the Southern United States from a
confluence of African and European music traditions. From its early
development until the present, jazz has incorporated music from 19th and
20th century American popular music. Its West African pedigree is evident
in its use of blue notes, improvisation, polyrythms, syncopation, and the
swung note.
The word "jazz" (in early years also spelled "jass") began as a West Coast
slang term and was first used to refer to music in Chicago in about 1915.
From its beginnings in the early 20th century jazz has spawned a variety of
subgenres: New Orleans Dixieland dating from the early 1910s, big band-
style swing from the 1930s and 1940s, bebop from the mid-1940s, a variety
of Latin jazz fusions such as Afro-Cuban and Brazilian jazz, free jazz from
the 1950s and 1960s, jazz fusion from the 1970s, acid jazz from the 1980s
(which added funk and hip-hop influences), and Nujazz in the 1990s. As the
music has spread around the world it has drawn on local national and
regional musical cultures, its aesthetics being adapted to its varied
environments and giving rise to many distinctive styles.
