DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME
(IRDP)
PLAN PERIOD & VARIOUS
SCHEMES
First 5-year plan (1951-56)
Community development programme was
started for awakening rural community.
Various schemes (25 schemes) were
launched during different plan period in
last 53 years for poverty removal & rural
development in India.
Pilot project started in 1976 in Andhra Pradesh
(karim nagar district)
Survey conducted to know :
1. Natural resources
2. Human resources
3. Available skills & technology
Special attention given to :
1. Small & Marginal farmers
2. Rural artisans
3. Sheep & cattle rearing
4. forests., minerals
5. Water resource
Help by Govt. ,credit institutions, CSIR
For mobilizing funds required
For improving rural conditions

There is an urgent need to integrate
technology with agriculture to improve
rural economy.
2.Smt. Indra Gandhi ,as PM while addressing
Indian Science Congress reminded the scientist
of the Gandhian dictum,- if the villages perishes
, India perishes too.

Implementing agency for IRDP
Agency for implementing of IRDP is DRDA
(District Rural Development Agency)
which is also a registered body under
Societies Registration Act & is an
Autonomous- body.
Functions of DRDA
Main functions:
1. Responsibility for implementation of IRDP
2. To prepare future plans & annual plan of
Block /s &
District
3. To monitor the execution of plans
4. To co-ordinate inter-departmental plans &
activities
5. To make publicity of development activities in the
villages / blocks and districts as a whole.
6. To review progress on monthly/ quarterly / half
yearly/ annual basis & send progress to state
Govt.
Other functions
1. Selection of beneficiaries( BPL & others)
2. Giving help in preparation of application form
for benefit under the scheme.
3. To check the end use of investment to
beneficiary
4. To co-ordinate in disposal of new applications
in various departments & banks.
5. To take care of the programmes of NABARD
like SGSY,DWACRA,TRYSEM,CAD,TADP etc
To ensure training of youth & others with
master craftsman & other technical guide.
To get release of subsidy for beneficiary
by DRDA to banks.
