Christ-Given Ministry Gifts

11
So Christ himself gave the apostles, the
prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers,

12
to equip His People for works of service, so that
the body of Christ may be built up

13
until we all reach unity in the faith and in the
knowledge of the Son of God and become mature,
attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of
Christ.

A Glimpse on the Apostles
...

2
until the day he was taken up to heaven, after giving
instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles he had
chosen.
(Acts 1:1-2 NIV)

42
They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to
fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.

43
Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and
signs performed by the apostles.

44
All the believers were together and had everything in
common.
(Acts 2:42-44 NIV)
Rev. Francis Niegas 5

2
They were greatly disturbed because the
apostles were teaching the people, proclaiming
in Jesus the resurrection of the dead.

A Glimpse on the Apostles

33
With great power the apostles continued to testify to the
resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And God's grace was so powerfully
at work in them all

34
that there were no needy persons among them. For from time to
time those who owned land or houses sold them, brought the
money from the sales

35
and put it at the apostles' feet, and it was distributed to anyone
who had need.

36
Joseph, a Levite from Cyprus, whom the apostles called
Barnabas (which means "son of encouragement"),

37
sold a field he owned and brought the money and put it at the
apostles' feet.

A Glimpse on the Apostles
12
The apostles performed many signs and wonders among the
people. And all the believers used to meet together in Solomon's
Colonnade.
13
No one else dared join them, even though they were
highly regarded by the people.

14
Nevertheless, more and more men and women believed in the
Lord and were added to their number.

15
As a result, people brought the sick into the streets and laid them
on beds and mats so that at least Peter's shadow might fall on some
of them as he passed by.

16
Crowds gathered also from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing
their sick and those tormented by impure spirits, and all of them
were healed.

17
Then the high priest and all his associates, who were members of
the party of the Sadducees, were filled with jealousy.
(Act 5:12-17 NIV)

18
They arrested the apostles and put them in the public jail.

19
But during the night an angel of the Lord opened the doors of
the jail and brought them out.

20
"Go, stand in the temple courts," he said, "and tell the people all
about this new life."

21
At daybreak they entered the temple courts, as they had been told,
and began to teach the people. When the high priest and his
associates arrived, they called together the Sanhedrin--the full
assembly of the elders of Israel--and sent to the jail for the apostles.

22
But on arriving at the jail, the officers did not find them there. So
they went back and reported,

23
"We found the jail securely locked, with the guards standing at the
doors; but when we opened them, we found no one inside."

27
The apostles were brought in and made to appear before the Sanhedrin to
be questioned by the high priest.

28
"We gave you strict orders not to teach in this name," he said. "Yet you
have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and are determined to make us
guilty of this man's blood."

29
Peter and the other apostles replied: "We must obey God rather than
human beings!

30
The God of our ancestors raised Jesus from the dead--whom you killed
by hanging him on a cross.

31
God exalted him to his own right hand as Prince and Savior that he might
bring Israel to repentance and forgive their sins.

32
We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God
has given to those who obey him."

33
When they heard this, they were furious and wanted to put them to death.

A Glimpse on the Apostles

8
Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me.

9
But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is
made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly
about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me.

10
That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in
hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I
am strong.

11
I have made a fool of myself, but you drove me to it. I ought to have
been commended by you, for I am not in the least inferior to the "super-
apostles,"

even though I am nothing.

12
I persevered in demonstrating among you the marks of a true
apostle, including signs, wonders and miracles.

13
How were you inferior to the other churches, except that I was never a
burden to you? Forgive me this wrong!

14
Now I am ready to visit you for the third time, and I will not be a
burden to you, because what I want is not your possessions but you.
After all, children should not have to save up for their parents, but
parents for their children.

A Glimpse of the Prophets

27
Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of
it.

28
And God has placed in the church first of all apostles, second
prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, of
helping, of guidance, and of different kinds of tongues.

29
Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work
miracles?

30
Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues
1
? Do all
interpret?

31
Now eagerly desire the greater gifts. And yet I will show you the
most excellent way.

(1Corinthians 12:27-1 NIV)
Rev. Francis Niegas 18
A Glimpse of the Prophets

32
Judas and Silas, who themselves were
prophets, said much to encourage and
strengthen the believers.

33
After spending some time there, they were
sent off by the believers with the blessing of
peace to return to those who had sent them.
(Acts 15:32-33 NIV)
Rev. Francis Niegas 19
A Glimpse of the Prophets

27
If anyone speaks in a tongue, two--or at the most three--should speak,
one at a time, and someone must interpret.

28
If there is no interpreter, the speaker should keep quiet in the church and
speak to himself and to God.

29
Two or three prophets should speak, and the others should weigh
carefully what is said.

30
And if a revelation comes to someone who is sitting down, the first
speaker should stop.

31
For you can all prophesy in turn so that everyone may be instructed
and encouraged.

32
The spirits of prophets are subject to the control of prophets.
