Basic Principles: Designing the Physical Environment of
the Classroom (Santrock, 2001, p.434)

Reduce congestion in high-traffic areas.

Make sure that you can easily see all students.

Make often-used teaching materials and student supplies
easily accessible.

Make sure that students can easily observe whole-class
presentations.

Have a brief-one-on-one conversation about
happenings in the students life.

Write a brief note of encouragement to the

Use students names when calling students.

Risk more personal self-disclosures, which
help students see you as a real person.

Be an active listener.

Let students know that you are there to
support and help them.
