Carbon-Oxygen Cycle

Carbon-Oxygen Cycle
Carbon, Hydrogen and Oxygen are reused by the
environment via respiration and
photosynthesis
When animals and plant go through Aerobic
respiration, O
2
is taken in. Then H
2
O and CO
2
are
released through the break down of glucose
Burning when oxygen is used in the burning of
wood or coal. co
2
is a product of combustion.
Decay- In the bodies of dead organisms carbon is
stored. when Bacteria breaks down the dead
animals and plants they use some of the carbon
as food. After which it is released as co
2
into
the atmosphere

Carbon-Oxygen Cycle
Then when plants go
through
photosynthesis they
use that CO
2
and
water to make glucose
and O
2

The cycle is then
repeated

Water cycle

Water Cycle
The water cycle involves
evaporation,
condensation, and
precipitation.

Evaporation is when the
liquid water on the
planets surface is
changed to a gaseous
state (water vapor).

Water Cycle
Processes
that as well
contribute to
this process
is both
transpiration
from plants
and
respiration
from animals

Water Cycle
Condensation is the
phase of water vapor
turning back into its
condensing liquid
state.
Through
precipitation, the
condensed water is
returned to Earth in
the form of rain,
snow and dew.

Nitrogen Cycle
NOTE:
This cycle is very
complex. So I
broke it up into 3
slides and
colored the
arrows.
It begins with N
2
gas and goes in
the direction of
the orange
arrows.

Nitrogen Cycle
Nitrogen is an element that all things need to live due
to its part in the makeup of proteins and amino acids
In the beginning of the cycle,
nitrogen is taken from the air by
nitrogen fixing bacteria (They
can be found in sections of the
roots of legumes and other
plants). This bacteria changes
the nitrogen gas in the
atmosphere into nitrates.

9/16/2014 11
Nitrogen Cycle
These nitrates are then
taken in by plants
where the plants use
them for protein
synthesis.
Animals then eat those
plants and change their
proteins into animal
proteins.
Animal waste and
nitrogen compounds of
the remains of dead
animals and plants are
decomposed by
bacteria of decay and
are turned into
ammonia

Nitrogen Cycle
From this point the
cycle can go in either
o f t w o w a y s .
N i t r i f y i n g
bacteri a i n the
soil will turn the
a mmo n i a b a c k
into nitrates that
can be used by
the plants again
Or, Denitrifying
bacteria will turn
the nitrates into
n i t r o g e n g a s
where the cycle
can start again.
