Solar cell- A solar cell or photovoltaic cell is a device that converts Light energy into electrical energy. Two basic Functions of Solar Cell- 1- Photo generation of charge carriers in light-absorbing material. 2- Then separation of the charge carriers to a conductive contact that will transmit the electricity. APPARATUS Solar panel consist of 6 solar cell ,table lamp , digital/analog d.c ammeter and voltmeter Observation Table For R = , voltage was =1.90v, and I = 0 mA S.No . Voltage POWER CURVEOF THE SOLAR CELL AS A FUNCTION OF VOLTAGE CALCULATIONS Fillfactor calculations of a solar cell:
From the readings of the graph of V-I: Maximum power= V m *I m =1.90*75=142.5 Ideal power=V oc* I sc=
I sc =Maximum current of saturation current
V oc =emf generated by photovoltaic cell in open circuit. Fill factor=(V m *I m )/(V oc *I sc )=
The maximum power point(MPP) is the maximum value of power in the above curve. The resistance,RMPP, at which the output power is at a maximum,can be calculated using the following formula: R MPP =(V MPP )/(I MPP )=
Efficiency() of a solar cell:
The efficiency of the solar cell is the ratio of produced electrical power (P out ) and the incident radiant power(P in ).
Efficiency of solar cell,=P out /P in where, P out =Maximum power output(MPP)=0.0572 P in =Approx.... Irradiance*Area of solar cell=(F*I p )*A=6.67*43.125*42=12081.037 A=Area of a solar cell(L*B)m 2
I p =Practical value of current indicated on the ammeter,F is a constant and is given by F=Maximum solar Irradiance/Maximum value of current F=(1000W/m 2 )/150mA=6.67 Hence,=P out /P in =0.0572/12081.0372=0.00000473
Applications Solar cells are widely used in solar lamp,solar notebook ,solar power calculator, solar power radio ,solar water heater etc. THANKS
