PITCH

CHOSEN SONG:
The song our group decided on was Warriors by Coco and
the Butterfields which shows clear themes of bravery and
courage. The genre of this music is fip fok which is a
combination of folk and hip hop. Therefore, the song has an
upbeat pace in which our music video needs to keep in time
with in order to reflect the tone of the song.
INITIAL PLOT:
Given that the song is titled Warriors, immediately our group had images of
a strong protagonist who acts as this warrior. Therefore, inspired by
popular music videos such as Katy Perry and Paramore, we decided to use
the heroines of various fairy tales and present them as brave and
courageous following the theme of the song. The fairy tales we have gone
with are; Alice in Wonderland, Little Red Riding Hood, Hansel & Gretel and
Goldilocks.
The story follows a female who drinks a mysterious beverage which then
evolves to the first fairy tale that will transition to the next fairy tale and so
forth, using mise en scene to trigger these transitions. All characters will be
portrayed by Danielle Batterbee who will depict the strong aspects of these
influential characters that show brave and courageous traits.
COSTUME:
In order to appeal to our demographic of a young audience, we will
modernize the costume, whilst keeping some traditions to give a nostalgic
effect. Below are some rough sketches of our intended costume for our
protagonist;

LOCATIONS:
In order to provide smooth transitions between fairy tales, we decided to
choose tales that use similar locations so that our video can be more fluent.
A similarity between the fairy tales was the use of a forest location and
therefore our group have chosen the woodland and lake areas of the UEA to
film in.
Another location featured are the houses in both Hansel & Gretel and
Goldilocks and therefore have decided to use my house as one location
and, with the use of mise en scene, link it to the predominant associations
with either fairy tale, such as the 3 bowls of porridge.
However, the house in Hansel & Gretel is made of gingerbread and if there
was a bigger budget, we could use special effects to create this, thus
outlining a problem. Therefore a solution is to make a standard size
gingerbread house, and using low angle shots, create the appearance of a
larger house in order to present a predominant aspect of the Hansel &
Gretel tale thus creating associations for our audience to identify.
MISE EN SCENE:
In order to present the fairy tales clearly to our audience, we have to carefully
consider mise en scene so that the props can immediately show associations that
the audience can identify. Therefore, in the first scene before the transition to Alice
(in Wonderland) there will be a teacup with a label saying drink me. This is a
prominent aspect of the story featuring Alice therefore hinting and creating the
connection to this tale.
Then in the Alice in Wonderland tale, a character featured will be the Mad Hatter
whose costume is easily recognisable. Therefore it is crucial his costume features
the infamous top hat with the ribbon and the price tag so that it can be easily
identified. The teacup featured in the first scene is also a signifier and an intertextual
reference to the tea party scene in the story therefore providing another association
for the audience to recognise.
