Social Teachings
Villano, Yumina B.

Salandanan, Alyanna Marie M.

Catholic Social Teaching is essential to our faith. Rooted in the

teaching of Hebrew prophets who announced Gods special
love for the poor, Catholic social teaching is built on the life
and words of Jesus Christ.
CST deals with how society should be organized so individuals
may more easily fulfill their earthly journey and ultimately
achieve union with our loving God in eternity.

God the Father sends His only Son Jesus Christ and shares the
Holy as His gift of love. God reveals himself to us as one who
is not alone, but rather as one who is relational, one who is
Trinity, Therefore, we who are made in Gods image share this
communal, social nature. We are called to reach out and to
build relationships of love and justice.

Virtues are habits, which enable us to lead good moral

lives, lives which enable us to exists in harmony with
others in a manner pleasing to God
St. Thomas Aquinas claimed that human beings had a
natural ability to act in Gods gifts, thus leading lives
pleasing to Him, God gifts people with the theological
virtues of faith hope and charity.

THE ORIGIN OF CATHOLIC SOCIAL

TEACHINGS

As a result of original sin, human beings were cast out of the

garden (paradise) according to some translations, and settled
east of Eden.

THE UNIQUE DIGNITY OF HUMAN

PERSON

Human beings, before the fall lived in an intimate relationship

with God- they knew and did HIS WILL.

The church was the first organization to take a hard stand

in favor of the rights of the unborn when abortion became
legal in the United States.
While affirming basic rights the church also calls people
to action. Rights therefore are seen as opportunities
people have to use their talents to actively do good for
others.
